917 evening at Silverstone - April

Not really Maserati but a friend is organising (via a Lotus forum) an evening with Jackie Oliver and Alan Henry to talk about the Porsche 917 and their racing exploits with it.

The evening would be a Saturday in April and at the BRDC clubhouse at Silverstone. I fear it will be an enthusiasts evening only, but prepare for some epic stories of racing back in the day for a couple of hours. Fingers crossed to have a 917 to pore over as well, we'll know nearer the time.

At the moment, trying to raise some numbers as between us we're looking for around 100 people so as not to seem insulting to the drivers!

Any interest from you guys and gals, please let me know via this thread or PM and I'll keep you updated. Jackie and Alan agreed to do this today so it's still a very new concept. Any info I get I'll update this thread.

Looks like we're at the 100 mark already (we were within a few hours in fact!)... so it'll be a small list of anyone from the forum really, but thanks Robin!

It'll be a bit of a charity event, so a nominal fee, not much, with proceeds going to Little Havens Childrens Hospice. We do something for them every year on the Lotus forum (SELOC).

Maybe a good idea to organise the April Midlands meet for the Sunday following this, to give people travelling from further away on the Saturday a chance to meet up with some others from round here?

I detailled one of the blue & orange GULF 917's at Nigel Mansell's house (Woodbury House) in Devon back in 2001 at a Porsche Club meeting... Don't remember a terrific amount about it just that their usual transporter was broken and it was touch and go it it could be got there as it is almost 8' wide and would overhang most transporters too much!

OK, this has be confrmed for the rather stupid date of April 23rd - Easter Saturday and right plum in the middle of the 11 days holiday due to the Royal Wedding! It has caused a few folk to drop out.
So my three confirmed workmates have dropped out, I need some warm bodies! Anyone live close by or fancy it? Will be a top night out.

Thank you Robin - I have asked Michael Hipperson (the organiser) if I can pass his details to you. He's the one who has been talking to Janet et al so if you and he could liase regarding numbers it would be brilliant. Your mob might just save the evening!!

Have persuaded other half to attend, we'll be at the Bucks Point to Point in the daytime and then shoot up to Silverstone in the evening. In the Porsche naturally, it's only right and proper

Paul, you and Pauline are very welcome indeed! Just let me know for sure as Michael is sorting the food out soon.

Not sure what we're doing, probably stay in Bucks with the inlaws for the night. If Hilton was on site I would go for it, but if I've got to get in a car and drive, it may as well be to somewhere for free!
