4200's that have been stood..

I've seen a low mileage car for sale, less than 30K on the clock. However looking at the MOT history via the DVLA site it's been stood for a long time.
It had its first MOT in 2006, showing 25K, it then wasn't tested again for another 7 years covering 90 miles in between. It missed 2015 and for its current MOT only shows it doing 20miles between '13-'16.

So the question is, if its been stored well, is the car more likely to suffer any more issues than a car that's been used? Are there known issues with a car that's been laid up. I would like to think having just passed an MOT, there shouldn't be any obvious degradation of any rubber parts (suspension and steering related).

Yes, lack of use is normally a bad thing. The reliable cars are ones that see regular use.

I would be suspicious of why it's been off the road for that long, even stored you would think it have an annual trip to an MOT station at the very least.

Can you post a link?

Apparently the owner has a small collection, but due to health issues is now moving them on. Granted it seems odd not to MOT if every year but I guess we all have different ideas.

Does anyone know of any issues that could be present, are the shocks likely to have suffered etc?

Recommissions are likely to be needed or as you have eluded to you may find many parts are brittle or leak.

Not really. We had a couple of cars in storage for about 10+ years. If you're not *using* them, there's always something else to do rather than check insurance, tyres, SORN and so on. Even if you have the best of intentions.

I think if you can arrange a independent inspection and it checks out ok but with the view of changing all the fluids and tyres and Adjusting that in to the price also get a written proof by letter off the owner stating the reason for it being laid up this will help when you sell her on than why not .

Is in me or does it look like the bonnet and front aren't fitted properly?

Also, mines on 03 but hasn't got the headlight washers, wasn't that something that was on Facelift cars?

If all of the above is correct that would suggest it's had a new front on it.

Headlight washers were fitted to all cars when fitted with HID headlights, including my classico.
Know what you mean regarding the bonnet to front end fitment, maybe just because of the light silver colour it highlights the gap...or the gap is bigger than normal!

I have seen this car advertised for quite a while now and always thought that it looked like fantastic value for money. But things aren't cheap for no reason usually. I would take the good advice from all the above before jumping in.

One of the biggest risks of non-use is the RMS - it dries up and shrinks a touch. Once you start using the car again it'll leak oil into the bellhousing.

Big problem with Ferraris which sit around a lot - I always advise my clients to schedule monthly start ups during the winter months to mitigate.

It may not be the same car but there was one on ebay last year that was a directors car that had been "stored" parked up in a warehouse covered in dust and hadnt moved in ages. IIRC somebody made an offer on it but they wanted more than the offer.

If its the same car i think whoever put the offer in also reported here on the condition of the car and work that needed doing from their own initial inspection.

It may well be a different car as the one im thinking of all the photos were in the warehouse.
