i comlpetely agree it could cost 10k to sort. But if the body looks ok even tyre wear and go inside and plug obd in i think i stand a chance. I dont mind not immaculate as i intend to do alot of miles and im not that fussy on colour

BUT...as ever only the indie inspection will reveal all and furnish you with the info to make that decision....could still be a steal at that money....or money pittish........

That advert looks fantastic - a real stunner and the spec I would want. I love my 4200 and I'm still not 100% on what to do. I need to weigh up the cost to change. Ive spent a lot on this 4200 including new cluth, brake pads/discs etc etc... BUT... at a weekend I cant put the whole family in the car and go driving as there is no real room for us all! I feel the QP could be the answer.

How does it compare for MPG/tyres etc?

Love the marque - cant see me leaving it any time soon!

...How does it compare for MPG/tyres etc?...

Best I have managed is 22 MPG (UK not USA), in mine on long runs when trying...can get 18-20 without trying too hard, again on a long run,
put your foot down or around town driving and this goes down to around 14.

Tyres are Pirelli P zero rossos, 245/45 front and 285/40 at the rear on the standard 18" rims (for my 4.2 duo select),
and 245/40 ....285/35 for the optional 19s....obviously very dependant on geo setup and driving style,
but I get around 7 to 8k on the rears and rougly double on the front.

I dont know as I own a 3200 but I would have thought they'd be similar as they share the engine ....

Some similar to the 4200 stats it appears?

Would have thought the QP was a little less due to the extra weight........I take it the QP has a bit more weight to carry around than the 4200...?...

My QP is the 4.7 with fewer miles on the clock than Enz. Over the 5K miles I've done in six months since buying it, long term average showing on the computer is 22.8 MPG. I am, as you will guess, a sedate driver and try to do the thing about conserving fuel by anticipation etc....most of this is long runs or leisure driving, very little caning it and no stop-start commuting/town journeys so I am probably doing something akin to the official "urban cycle", so the mpg seems about right. ...I must say I was pleasantly surprised, on paper the 4.7 is marginally more thirsty than the 4.2 but not much.

Bigger engined cars are often more economic in the real world. They always said that about the old XJ - V8 was more economic than the six.

QP is 300kg heavier than a 4200 but it has another 10bhp in 4.2 form.

The QP in London has been sold - I was tempted to enquire!

Here's another question for you - I asked what mine was worth, simply out of interest I guess - it also helps with my planning! This is a copy of the exact email (source/name removed!)

"In terms of a valuation for your car, we don't really see that many of the manual 4200 GTs. It is really based on the market price level for similar age / mileage cars. We would try to gauge what a similar car would retail for and then work backward in terms of a part exchange valuation.

We have recently sold a 2003/53 reg 4200 Coupe Cambiocorsa with 49,000 miles. It was advertised at £16,990 and sold for £16,000, but Cambiocorsas generally sell for about £1,000 more than GT manuals (Cambiocorsa was a£3,000 option on new 4200s.)

Applying that logic, I would imagine that your car would sell for about £15,000. We would have to budget for providing a 12 month warranty on your car, which is about £1,500, then we have to allow for our profit margin, which is roughly 10%, so you're looking at about £12,000 for your car as a part exchange.

Glass's Guide values a 2004/53 reg 4200 GT with average mileage (37,000 miles) at £11,400 'trade' and £15,400 'retail' so I think that the above figures are in the right ball park."

Personally - I felt this was VERY low! For a start I would have thought the average would not be 37,000 miles, and if the 4200 is rare, and most people don't want the auto - surely you don't knock £1000 off the price? Anyway - I thought it was a good reply to share to get everyone's thoughts.
