4200 v Quattroporte???

After 3 very happy years of owning a 4200 - I've now got a larger family (2 wee boys) and I'm in the early stages of considering a bigger car.

I love Masserati and don't think I could look at another marque. Whats everyone's thoughts on the virtues of both?? I love the speed, looks and head turning appeal of the 4200. But the QP also appeals but I'm very undecided.

Thoughts appreciated as always gents

The up-dated, post 2007 car is much better re electrical gremlins( not that many really but less grief after this date).......and as one of the guys off here is doing....up dating the front bumper, grill and lights can make a hugh visual difference....so a slightly higher mileage newer car much better choice than older lower mileage.

It is a bigger car, handles as well...a bit jittery on poor roads but immense otherwise.....

The usual indie inspection recommended.

The QP should be very reliable....It has no known issues and it's very rare to hear of anything major going wrong.....I'm sure that Enzo will be along to tell you of his experience with his early QP but he has had no horror stories......If you have a family and want a bigger car the QP is a no brainer if you still want to stay with Maserati.....It handles like a smaller car and you still get that noise and the best looking 4 door car on the market.....

Go for the QP! Agree with Parisien on all his points. In addition the facelift brought some improvements to the dash layout and ergonomics. If you can run to the facelifted car (there's a lovely one at Dicky Grace's site) , you have the option of the 4.7 engine - see earlier discussion of the range at http://www.sportsmaserati.co.uk/sho...les-but-seems-great-price?p=137794#post137794 . Had my one-owner 3 years old facelift for six months now, hasn't missed a beat and is a joy all round.

QP's are the nuts. By an 07 Auto or an 09 if you can stretch, sublime cars. They're very popular and selling quickly at the moment.

With the 4.7 version....just as quick as the smaller nimbler 4200....so a gain there really....................

4.7 QP has a slightly inferior power to weight ratio than a 4200 but not by much - c6%.

It's amazing how different we all are. Personally I hate the dual colour seats in that car. Love the QP in general though.

I am thinking similar. I had my first child just over a month ago and cant see me using my 3200 ac that much. Think i may go for a test drive, i just wished you could get a manual. ? how hard would it be to fit a manual box for a 4200 to a quattroporte, is the robotised manual gearbox the same? would obviuosly need some custom upholstery. Also , and please dont shoot me as i would only do this to a high mileage one, has anyone heard of lpg on the 4.2 engine

I saw a QP with an lpg conversion. Not sure whether or not it's advisable, probably not, but it is possible. I wouldn't bother with a manual box though. Perfect car if you want a high-miler, for sale at Nuvola. It's a late car too.

does look tempting but living in manc with 5 week old first child i cant get a look. I have a friend at BCA car auctions and QP dont do well at auction, some going through as low as 10k for early examples so may take a risk a keep the 3200, but runing them both might be a stretch and would have to lpg the QP

Cracking looking example on Novola site
http://www.nuvolalondon.com/home.php

High miles but well specced and love the interior trim.

James

Been looking at the advert for this car for over a week........Wish I had the spare cash as even though it has high miles I love it...Perfect spec for me.......A very hig spec car with rear seat entertainment which is rare and was a 5k option....

Not sure if it's now sold as its gone off Pistonheads and autotrader and was there yesterday morning...Still on their web site though..

I wouldn't go anywhere near a £10k QP at auction. Could easily cost you £5k to get it right.
