To all on the SM list and on lookers - I have got some quotes together and the indicative price per unit is roughly £400 each

This includes producing a CAD file which will be owned by me (not the supplier), the CNC programming, set up, run time and raw materials... Price is based on an initial 4x samples to check that they work as expected on a few different Model Year cars and then a batch of 25x will be manufactured

Finish will be either polished or I can possibly do Nickel plated

We are not at the value end that I expected but if you want a more basic solution I know @masertel has got a universal spherical gear knob to work on his Spyder and Coupe with light modifications

So who is in and who is out? If majority are out then this is not feasible

At that price point...I’d prob start getting a bit fussy that I liked it...( also just been scammed >£330 by some American seller  & brake kit looks like running into repaint costs too....:worried1: )
...so what will it actually look like?

Exactly as discussed. An exact copy of the original in terms of shape and features made from aluminium with a trident and H pattern engraved into the top

I do not have the funds to get this off the ground until next year - if there is no interest I might as well pull the plug now

So- no fancy 3d trident CNC’d into, rather a simple engraved line..?

Fancy 3D trident engraved as per the original sketch, not a line drawing.

The expensive part is the CNC programming and set up. Design fees are nominal.

Sounds good mate...!
Realistically, if you're left needing a replacement, trying to source an OEM, used, is going to be time consuming and at least as expensive...!
A decent alternative that could be easily adapted to serve the 3200 community too is worth pursuing IMO...!

Just to clarify re engraving vs etching

The owner of the engineering company explained that the detail on the top will be engraved using a CNC machine and appropriate tool

I asked about the difference with "etching" he said that will leave a burnished finish vs engraving which will be shiny

Also if this goes ahead I need to source a manual gear shaft and lifter assembly to help develop something that will be securely held on. Some doubts about how well a grub screw will work if it has nothing to purchase onto

Have they not considered industrial glues al la AM/Koenisegg/Morgan et al chassis makers ?

Once glued can you remove the gearknob if needed?
Depends on the adhesive used...but the info I was given when I looked at it was that yes...apply heat, it softens the adhesive and the handle can be removed...
I suggest that specialist knowledge of this area of expertise will yield the right product..
3200 uses grub screws, as Im sure you know. Because of the shape, screws are not a very good solution for the 4200 shaft I suspect...

Thanks for all your work and your effot. But by having in mind, that mine is still in condition like factory new, I think I have to go out this time.

Further update from me...

After tallying up the cost for the original concept I decided that it is commercially unfeasible. I am not confident enough that people will buy a metal Gearknob that is similar to the original at a similar Maserati parts price point (circa £500)

I am currently speaking to some suppliers about getting a plastic mould copy of the original produced which will be wrapped in high quality leather, embossed with the H pattern and with the logo I am considering something along the lines of embossing the leather with a trident, reproducing the original gel sticker or a laser etched trident insert. Still working out costs but it is looking likely to be more feasible.
