Best to put this info up in the cars for sale section a few weeks before you formally put it up for sale, a few have been sold off here to forum members!

Thanks for the comments - happy to send photos of my car to anyone who is looking to buy one.

Buying new was a difficult choice. I want a full auto and the prices of used 4.7 engined cars are too near a discounted new price to my mind. As for the 4.2, I test drove one and it was actually fast enough for my uses but getting a deal on a 2/3 year old with low miles at a good price was difficult especially as I did not want black or silver.

I did the maths and as I will keep a new car six or seven years as opposed to buying back to back three year old cars and keeping each one three years, I felt it was better value to bite the bullet and pay up....

I don't mind the wait as my 4200 is a great car. I will be sad to lose a manual gearbox car but I don't do flappy paddle single clutch boxes (not wanting to have a debate as I know loads of people love them) and my other cars are all manual (but not as fast) so no issues. Frankly I was also suprised at how aggressive the auto GT is in Sport mode and with the 4.7 I will at least get the loud exhaust at over 3500 revs - perfect for overtaking!

Two year old 4.7 S Autos are £15k less than the price of a new one, after discount with a light spec. I would prefer to pay £7.5k pa for my spec, 2 years extra warranty and unused brakes and tyres.

Most of my logic was driven both by the £10k gross margins on used cars and the discounts you can get off new cars. The trick with the latter is to go for a light spec but taking all this into account the cost of keeping a new car six years is not much more than buying a three year old car at a main dealer, keeping it three years then doing the same again for the next three years. Would be cheaper to buy the three year old
car and keep it six years but I am ignoring that!

As an aside for those of you who have not driven a 4.2 GT, go and do so as I was more impressed than I expected to be.

Nice one Bob!

I too have the 4200 GT and love the manual box. Last one was a CC and that had lots going for it as well!

Look forward to pics of your new car later in the summer!

Congrats Bob.

SO have you spec'd the car entirely? And its being built for Aug delivery? What spec did you go for (colours etc) and will you hold off for a Sept delivery, get it on a 61 plate?

You enjoying the new Aston Lewis? I had a go on a flappy paddle DB9 a few years ago and that was pretty nice :)

Manual box turns it into a much sportier car as you find yourself holding onto gears longer and changing up and down for the **** of it to hear the engine! It's away from me at the moment getting fiddled with... I do miss it!
So yes, loving it :)

Blu Oceano with Cuio for September.

As mine will be a 2011MY, I've taken a punt that the 2012MY changes will be small. The web seems to think that the new QP will be an eight speed auto with stop start but I'm guessing that that stuff will not go on the GT until 2013MY - indeed it is possible that the QP will be launched as a 2013MY car in any case and they may want the QP to have some of the newer stuff on an exclusive basis for a while.

Further, I did not want to wait forever and six gears is enough for me. I do seriously wonder if an eight speed auto would just be changing gear all the time. As for stop/start - fine on a town car but not for something like a Maser. Could have egg on my face in a few months if I find out that 2012MY GT S has a 5.0 litre engine and a cheaper price!!!!!!!!! Seriously, I asked my dealer several times and they said nothing material is coming.

Thanks. Once nearly bought a 3200GT in Dark Green (??? Verde) with Cuio. Looked great but that was years ago, a decade even. How times fly!

Hope I like the GT S as it will be staying a long time to ride out the depreciation curve. I know some people will think I am nuts but Maserati residuals are so strong and used margins so high that I am convinced it is as cheap to buy a new car and keep it six years as it is to buy a three year car and keep it three years and then do the same again.

Im with you on that one sort of , i believe Robbiemac bought his Granturismo GT 4.2 with such a good deal that when chopping it back in a year later for audi Q7 that he said the depreciation losses were marginal , , think he lost big bucks on the Q7 tho when he chopped it back in for another QP

Pinkies crossed for you bigbob
