4200 or GranSport Clutch costs?

Hi Folks,
I'm thinking of buying my first ever Maserati. Been looking at either a 4200 Spyder or a GranSport. I have been rather worried about maintenance costs but having read lots on this excellent forum about using a good Indy for servicing etc, and also about alternatives for Brake Pads and Discs, now I'm not so terrified!
The only thing worrying me really is the short clutch life, and the idea of £2.5k for a replacement!

I would only be using the car for an average of 5k miles a year or less, but quite a bit of that would be urban journeys in quite heavy traffic.

So my question is, what is the cheapest current way of replacing the clutch? Is a refurb a possibility? And also, what about the gearbox? How long do they last, how often do gearboxes need replacing, because I can only imagine that would be a horrific cost???

Thanks in advance for any help. much appreciated!

Its not the clutch being very expensive but the time it takes to balance, fit and set up correctly.

I wouldn't worry unduly about the clutch, I've managed 5 years on mine with some fairly extreme driving, I know the clutch was replaced under warranty at 13,000 miles when 2 years old for the previous owner, I've taken it over 68,000. I always make a rolling start, pick up neutral when stationary and rarely use auto except in really stop start traffic. IT was read recently at 68% worn, there is more risk of the tangs collapsing than it wearing out in the next 20,000 miles. When it does I'll replace it myself with some help from others on here.

Gearbox has never missed a gear or had any issue to my knowledge, I do have a weak spring on the reverse lever which is an easy work around to press it up after use!

My 4200 had a clutch at 58k. It now has 97k and for the past year and a half has said 100% wear, Its is not slipping yet so when it does that when i will have it replaced.

You will replace the clutch less often than you would have to replace a cam belt due to age....and of course there is no cambelt to change on the 4200/GS or QP/GT!
