To be honest, I'm no longer sure where I am :)

David Askew refurbishes the pumps. I'm sure that the combined powers of the forum will be able to get one to you :)

Yes thanks C I know that I deal with David quite often he's very helpful. Given the shipping costs conversion rates and my location just trying to find out as much as I can about the pumps so I can make informed decisions ;)

I'm in NSW, tappets. Soon I will be doing some 'catch-up' work on my recently purchased 3200 GT. It can't be too difficult to overhaul the waterpump, surely, so I am going to give it a go.

Remember the pump is run by the timing belt... if the bearing seizes then you could have a much bigger problem. It's a strange piece of design engineering. Make sure you get the right bearing and gasket. I didn't dare risk a refurb myself.

Maybe some of the experts on here could advise you better? How many miles has it done? Is it making a noise? How are the temps doing? Did you use Paraflu additive? Have you flushed the system? Do you have any Paraflu - can you get it?

If you need an exchange unit, Lozzer's thread is still good.

Check whether you have to get the pump off first, if its an exchange. Like an idiot, I just ordered an exchange from Stu without checking - duh! I have been hunting one down for ages. New from the US is £1000 plus. For me, it was simply just going to be a future 'bucket' job - to be done when I changed the belt at 70000 mls. Now I am committed - and the padded cell awaits!

Meantime, have you got an engine maintenance manual? Are you sure you know what you are doing - 'cause I sure as **** don't!

Would be great if someone put up a how to..?

My 3200 GT (which I've only had for 6 months) has done 97 thousand Km. New turbo and coolant hoses are on order, and I need to fix an oil leak in the auto trans, which means removing the exhaust pipes - time to replace O2 sensors.

Water pump and timing belt were on my 'bucket list' as well, but I thought it would be a good move to do these at the same time (probably early next year). The maintenance history is a bit 'sketchy', so I though It wise to catch up on a few things. Any ideas on other things to look at would be welcome. Is Paraflu 'the go' - if so, which one?

How do I get hold of an "engine maintenance manual", as I do need one - and all the help I can get!:)

Cheers, Greg

Noticed on eBay in the US someone is advertising a repair kit for the Shamal and 3200 about £180 plus import duty and tax.

DA showed me how he does his, It's not easy to get a seal on the shaft and if the casing is worn...
Personally, like I did when I had my engine rebuilt...is bite the bullet and buy a new one!

Dave

I would probably do the same while they are still available but if Maserati decide not to manufacture any more refurbishing existing pumps may be the only option.

Rebuilding will be the way forward when they are nla. Better a slight leak than seizing!

Like you say Al when the time comes....

But so what, spending 6 or 7 hundred quid on your pride and joy when the original parts are still available, as you only have to do it once!
