I don't remember, to be honest, but it is big for sure. I have also tested it and it gives the right charge.

OK my knowledge on the issue therefore is running out.... you could ask the dealer to contact Maserati support or contact a dealer who can support you with SD2/3 and see if they will collect the car - you may have to pay €100ish euro for this but at least its with someone who can help.

best of luck and hope you get her fixed - sorry I can not be any more help....

No problem at all. We will rebuild the engine first, then we will change the 4 sensors, that I have bought and then I will write here if there is any result.

thanks again

OK guys, just for your info - the Magneti Marelli water temp sensor can not be found in the Maserati dealerships anymore and is discontinued. However, I found an alternative one from FAE. It costs 20 Euro and its number is 33720. I believe it also fits Alfa Romeo 156 and some Fiats.

Does anyone know what this green thing is? My mechanic says it's a good idea to replace it, but there is no part number on it.

I have found something in eurospares (last picture), but I am not sure it is the same thing:

95067 THERMAL SWITCH - -Valid till ***. Nr.1711-

Looks like a temperature operated vacuum/pressure valve.
Probably used to control the evap system.
Why does your mechanic want to replace it?

I don't know, he hasn't told me. He isn't from the type of mechanics, that change parts "just in case", so he has probably saw something. I have checked - this part is not expensive, I just hope it can be bought without problem. As I see in Eurospares - it is present only on the earliest cars (mine is number 466) and the lastest ones don't have it.

He showed me the block - everything seems perfect. He says, that the problem is probably from the valves - they need a good regulation. I told him to fully revise the heads anyway and we will see what will happen. But because we also don't know what is causing the original problem with the rich mixture, I have bought several new sensors too.

Sorry for the late response, but they have managed to rebuild my engine just now!!! However, after starting the car the knocking problem still exists and they have discovered, that the right hand head is just not getting enough oil. Seems, that stripping the engine was probably not been necessary.... But anyway, now we must see why the right head is not getting enough oil.
