3200 valved exhaust?

Chris, you will probably find that the pipes used in both the 3200 and GS are different widths maybe, and that would make the conversion unlikely. What you could do it cut the entire tailpipes off and have them welded to the 3200 silencers.

What I would do it get some new rear boxes built, using the parts from the GS boxes....or just get some made up using the GS boxes as a guide.

I have a pair in my shed, that I am keeping to put on when I sell, but you are welcome to borrow them if you want, but would want them back in undamaged condition.

The back box valves have a butterfly valve that sits inside the tailpipes so size and fit is critical.

Pretty sure that with a pipe expander the valves can easily be made to fit , juts needs a very short coupling made up if the pipes are of differing sizes , really no big deal for a modern day exhaust re-manufacturer and welded just in front of the boxes , yours being relatively new stainless steel chris that should be a problem, new valves and soenoid definately the best option

You make it sound fairly easy Loz! I'll ring David at Larini this week and ask how much a couple of valves and vacuum solenoids would set me back - I'm sure, as you say, I can find someone up here to weld them in...

Spoke to David at Larini this afternoon, but unfortunately he won't sell the valves/solenoid separately. He did mention for anyone else looking to go down this route that he's planning to do a 3200 valved back box sometime in the future. I'll have a look and see if the valves can be bought separately from somewhere...

Ill try and remember to have a look at my GS boxes tonight, see if I can see any part number or manufacturers stamps.

Ok, here are the pics, I have taken a pic of the manufacturer plate, as you may be able to buy the parts direct, but good luck with that.

On further inspection, it would appear possible to cut and weld them in, as this is how it has been done on the OEM boxes.

Thanks Matt - those pics are very interesting -the valve it seems is after the back box in one tail pipe only. Presumably that means that the back box itself is split into 2 chambers - one baffled normally and one perhaps as an empty resonator. I'm guessing that when the valve is shut, the gases come out through the baffled part of the back box into one tailpipe only, and with the valve open the majority of the gases take the path of least resistance through the louder chamber and out through the opened valve to the other tailpipe - am I right anyone? This is how the chap at MIJ described how they were planning to build their valved back boxes...

The other option would be to do as Loz describes above and put a valve in before the back box to allow the gases straight out without ever entering the back box, as in the picture of the M3 exhaust in my first post on this thread...

I doff my hat to you safrane sir!

Question is, if the gases left through an entirely open pipe before the back boxes (ie:not through a resonator) would it sound good or nasty? The engine is still a beefy V8, so it ought not to sound like a rude boy vauxhall corsa...

Quiet a few have had straight through pipes, in fact I sold my spare rear boxes to one guy who found them just a little too loud.
