3200 rear seat removal help request

Hi

I had a petrol odour in the car late last year and mentioned it on the forum. I took it back to the garage under warranty and they advised it was a weeping jubilee clip on a fuel hose return which I was advised runs behind the rear seat and requires seat removal. It was fixed and was fine for a while but recently I have smelt petrol in the cabin again. I want to have a go at this myself as I'm sure its doable ( is that a word :)

Can you lovely 3200 owners please advise in great detail how to proceed please ?

Regards
Paul

Hi Parisien

Thanks. I'm not sure ? Quite possibly. All I remember is the garage saying it was a weeping jubilee clip and it was a seat out job.

Hi Paul ,

I had this problem a while ago . You don't need to take the rear seat out - you access the offender from inside the boot area , if memory is still working properly I think you strip the carpet lining panel out and the clip you need to access is on the left handside (as if looking into boot) about 2/3 of the way up the fuel tank . Took me quite a while to get to the bottom of this , and all the time driving round as high as a kite on fuel vapour !
I think I posted info somewhere - will see if I can find ,

let me know if this helps

cheers

Steve and Frank are on the right lines I feel, and if you take the boot carpet and lining out can you do a pictorial how to for us please.

I have done it, from memory, you have to remove the trim from the rear lip of the boot opening, weather seal then its mainly push fixings but be careful taking the side liners out, you have to bend them to get them out and they are brittle and snap/crack. I repaired mine with fibre glass from behind after the bodyshop had had them out.

You can then take the spare wheel tub out to access the gearbox, there is one fixing from underneath, just get a new seal or mastik if you take it out as you can then introduce the swimming pool in your boot syndrome. Most people have drilled a hole in the bottom of the tub to stop any ingress puddling.

That's very useful thanks. Steve am I correct to look for a jubilee clip that needs resealing ? What can be done to improve repair if this is a common issue ?

Hi Paul ,

best way is this, as Matt states clear all carpets and liners out of boot area - then take photo of left hand side of fuel tank area , which will show pipes and I think as Parisien quotes a trap device . We will then guide you - it is not a jubilee clip, but an odd factory fitted clip which is difficult to tighten properly .

cheers

Hi Steve, Parisien and Matt. Thanks for your guidance. I will do that this week subject to dry weather. I will get back to you all. Glad its a boot fix and not from within. I must ask the garage to remind me what they did.

I can confirm I have had the same problem, same device, remove carpets as described and its just about accessible from inside the boot compartment. I seem to remember the valve that the problem is with can be detached from its mounting bracket and bent down so you can see it, and its easier to see the hoses then. The boot liner is held in the the plastic strip across the boot threshold, with an obvious row of screws, and there are some plastic push fit buttons up under the back shelf where the tank is and these need to be popped out. The rubber seal strip around the boot also holds the carpet liner in place. I have also had the back seats out to get into the alarm unit and thats not that hard either. I don't think there are any fuel hoses under the seats however.

It may be a while !

you don't have a leak in the boot do you - if so an ideal time to check it out ?

btw I was racking my brain to remember this (was a few years ago !) and I think the hose clip you need is about 2/3 of the way up the tank on the far left side , if goes to a plastic trap affair . I ditched the " one time" factory fit clip and put a jubilee on good and tight - let us know how it goes

cheers

Hi Paul ,

looks like weather will be good for you - it's not too bad a job - just a lot of trim removal before you can get to the tank and pipes

cheers

3200 fuel vapour in cabin repair

Hi

Have stripped the boot out ( see pix x 2 ) Which one is the culprit ? I cannot see any obvious weeping or trace of fuel.

If my memory serves me correctly - it is the one in the second picture that goes on to the round white circular trap style thing ( for want of a better description ) the connectors on mine were factory ones - looked ok but were not real tight , maybe were the rubber hose had aged . Ditch them and get some jubillees on there tight - can't quite tell from the photo - but they should be on the left side of tank as if you are looking in boot .

hope that helps

btw - are you going to Beaulieu tomorrow - assuming it all goes back together ok ! :goodjob:

Hi Saint ( name ? )

Thanks. I will replace that one then with a jubilee clip. Would love to blast down to Beaulieu but have a few things to do + if this takes longer than planned which they usually do. Have a great time

Hi Paul ,

I checked round the other clips also , as where the rubber ages the original clips lose thier "bite" ,

Paul I don't know anything about this leak but as petrol evaporates you may need the motor running to see the leak under pressure. Apologies if you have already done this
