I hope you don't mind bumping this thread after so long, mine in not working and it is not available from Maserati and I can't locate it at the usual suppliers, like Eurospares. Have you figured a solution to this?

I've had 3 of these over a period of many years and by a long way the best (most consistent readings - others needed a good rev to give accurate readings once - and only once per journey - the engine got hot) has been the last one (fitted a couple of years ago) which was a unit that David Askew had reconditioned. See if he's still reconditioning them.

He will have soldered the connections, the original used an interference contact, eg. just touching, hence very unreliable.

I just want to double check that it is damaged, because they did not give a definite answer. Mine goes to 5bar and stays there, once the engine is running. This is wrong right, i though it should stay somewhere at the middle of the readings? I asked the dealership but they told me not to worry because there are no replacement parts available and my engine is ok. However they did not tell me if the reading is not normal.

My experience is that 5 bar is absolutely correct until the oil gets very hot (which takes a lot longer than the water getting getting up to temperature). After this, the pressure will run at 3 bar or so at idle, rising very quickly with engine speed to the fulol 5 bar by about 1,500 rpm. It can even drop to 2.5 bar or below causing the oil light to momentarily flicker if I move away with very low revs such that the revs drop down to 800 rpm.

5 Bar, or full scale is correct, as others have said it will drop slightly when the engine is hot. The alarm is dependent on revs, if say it dropped to 2 Bar at idle this would not necessarily alarm , but at 6k rpm it most definitely would.
