I have a 3200 gt 2001 plate with a sixteen pin diagnostic connecter but my code reader will not link up.

Do they have a non standard protocol?

Sorry to say but not so ,OBD port does not guarantee that , 2000 my cars had eobd port but early software , If you car is a 2001 MY then what Conaero says is true if not then you are like me with obd connector and early software - which sadly is sd2 . I think you can confirm by some extra valve on the vacuum hoses at front of engine

cheers

I have a Autel Geniscan GS400 code reader it normaly works with any manufacture of vehicle 2001 onwards, so I guess my 3200 GT has the old software?

Maybe so - one of the ways to tell is if there are two silver/alloy style diaphragms on either side on the engine at front ( something for emission I think ) then it is 2001 - if not then 2000 my

I use a Car Code Reader ELM327 USB SCAN TOOL can be found on ebay for £15+ you can download software for free on the internet but not all software works so a bit of trial and error is needed.

Yep, that is correct and it will work on all GS, only the engine management, not the gearbox or or other systems.

code reader

you can only get engine management codes from the 4200 ODBII port? i must have been unbelievably lucky as my 2001 3200GTA gives me full engine, suspension and gearbox codes through the integrated CANBUS system. I can't believe they would have unraveled this for the 4200 but i guess is a different car. I have both a low cost portable reader in the car for on the road re-sets and also an ELM unit with a bought copy of ODBII spy, its nothing to write home about but it does work.

Hi Davy83

What low cost portable unit do you use?

Thanks in advance

Thanks sounds like an option so I will go buy one. Also looking for the portable unit to carry in the car but maybe this is one. Thanks Geoff

I need to diagnose/reset the error light on my car which seems to be permanently on.

Can I be sure my car is ODB II if I have the silver diverter valves as circled in the picture below?

I have a single 16pin connector and my car is registered in 2001, so I assume its a 2001 car.

Hi Arnie,

To be certain of the year, contact Masser and give them your car details , they will give you a history of build date etc. Mine is a 2002, but built in July 2001. Does not cost anything either.

If it's OBDII there'll be a rectangular-shaped connector plug just behind the dash above the throttle pedal, which might be an easier way to check what yours is?

I don't think a generic OBDII reader will diagnose or reset the ERROR light. Incidentally, it should also clear itself once the fault clears - without needing to be reset.

I have an ODB II connector in the right place above the throttle, BUT in trying to connect a Wuerth code reader the device comes up with a connection error. I saw on Google it may be possible the ODB II connector is using ODB v1 software protocol which is proprietary hence the generic reader cannot connect. Can anyone confirm this?

I am tempted to take the car to Giallo, but I'm not sure if theya re open on Saturday mornings. Their website developer seems to have overlooked opening hours from what I can see :-(
