My dad used to take my sister, my mum & I in his 2 seater Healey to Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Thruxton etc. We'd sit in the footwell, no seatbelts or child seats! We must have been very young to fit in but I remember it very well. If it rained we'd be lucky enough to get the tonno cover over our side if my mum wasn't with us because it didn't have a roof! We got stopped for speeding once or twice on the way home from his track days but got let off as the police just wanted to have a nose at the car.

Our school run car was a mark 1 Capri.

My childhood memories started in a Hillman, then a brown mark 2 Cortina GL then a Daytona yellow mark 3 GLS that was a very nice car. Then in teenage years I had to endure a brown mark 4 'Tin Corner' as we referred to it.

Yeah Dem, I'm sure my parents have pics of me and my sis in the car, I'll try and scan them next time I'm down. Health & safety has come on leaps and bounds, my dad recalls stories of driving home drunk and horrific crashes in the 60s when drink driving was accepted and legal and you'd be lucky to have a seatbelt in your car!

My dad had one of those Cortinas with the CND back lights, not a Lotus Cortina unfortunately... He used to get a new company car every few years, mainly Fords in our house...

In the 80s it was still alright to drive with no seatbelt and after youve had a few at parties....remember my uncles being ****** at bbqs driving home and id go to wear a belt and theyd laugh at me.....
