Hello all
I have a 3200 that i have had for just over 1 year. No real problems just a bit of a painful service and cam belt change bill- pulley bolt sheared!
We have plucked up courage to go on a weeks road trip to France. Did it last summer in my E class so have all the legal requirements sorted.
Does anyone have any suggestion for spares to carry, it was always prudent in my old Porsches to carry a DME relay and just asking for any suggestions.
I have a code reader/resetter so thats covered.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks Stuart

One thing....and one thing only........good recovery cover!

:)

Seriously.....once a car gets to a certain age......anything can go, but a good visual check over a must, plugs, connections leads, hoses, pipes, hook it up if possible and check recent codes and get sorted in any retained on a 3200. Maybe a few spare sparkplugs, main belt, if no spare wheel, foam repair kit/tyre inflator, all the French legal stuff, breakdown bibs and bulbs etc.

100% a spare wheel. Loz had a blow out in France an hour or so after getting of the ferry. The tyre were impossible to get so he had to be recovered back to Blighty the same day.

Maybe see if any companies on your route have a suitable tyre in stock.

If you prepare, it won't happen.

Other than that if the recovery man can't fix it your on the next ferry home.

All you can do is cover the items Parisien makes above.

Good luck!

good tip for you, carry your Hi Vis jacket someone easily seen from the side of the road.. ie on your back shelf etc your less likely to be pulled if they see it!
now that the breath test is also mandatory pop it next to the Hi Vis,
i normally carry basic tools, oil, brake fluid, water, screen wash, Spare wheel and puncher foam with me.

On March 1st the breathalyser saga came to an official end. The government has decided:

1. A breathalyzer is obligatory in all motor vehicles.

2. There is NO penalty or fine if you do not have one.

This is only the second law in France where not following it carries no sanction; the other law is the obligation to register to vote.

Here is the official decree published on March 1st:

http://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/affic...FTEXT000027119723&dateTexte=&categorieLien=id

Presumably because the police are involved, it's a criminal rather than civil issue. Will it be technically possible to gain a criminal conviction as a result of not carrying a breathalyser while not actually being punished?
I'm told by friends around the country that these tests are much more available, although I haven't looked for any myself

I'd still say to ring and check with AA/RAC anyways....they are a fickle crowd and fine happy those Gendarm types

Doing a run down to Barcelona then to Mallorca and back over 2.5 weeks in June.
2.5 weeks in the Spyder with Mrs T so luggage space at a premium.

Got me thinking re spare wheel. What's the consensus on whether I should buy/carry one?

i would carry one it can work out very expensive if you stuck , or as suggested earlier around before you leave and make sure u know who has the right tyres in stock or just carry the tyre and put some of your luggage inside it :p

You loose half your boot space.........but on a long trip to foreign parts its an insurance policy

Well, if a mere puncture....use the foam, then check in the localities you visit, who stocks what size tyres so if you need a new one you don't have to wait a week plus
