funny u should say about hitting toll barrier. I used to go mountain biking in morzine france, and i was a sleep in the passeneger seat of my mates car as we approached a toll booth in geneva and bang, he had run the front left wheel hard into the concrete and instanly puntured the front left wheel, the toll booth girl just laughed, and we limped out of the toll with a bent flat wheel

So the Frenchies have narrowing toll booths which they trigger when they see a brit car coming through, will think of something to use as counter-measures, basket of frogs maybe??

It is stick on deflectors that I have bought, are they no good? If not what do you suggest??

Keep the stickers in the car, in case you need them. Maybe use them to keep your eyes open late at night.

Nobody seemed bothered by lights on my AC, even on main beam most of the time.

As mentioned Spare bulbs are advisory not essential, so check on real advice site like AA.com or DVLA.
