2013 QP-S (QP-5): Open door, dash & interior lights on, insert key in ignition, ALL lights go off - no power whatsoever

Model Year 2013 Quattropore-S (QP-5) : Getting ready to go to work this morning, go into the garage, open the driver's door, interior lights come on, insert key into ignition switch - everything goes black, no power whatsoever. Key locked in the ignition cylinder, no access hole to permit manual removal of the key. I looked under the left-rear seat for the pull-cord to open the truck manually to check the battery connections, but did not see the cord anywhere under there. I only have one key for the car at this time. This same issue occurred several weeks ago, however during my fussing around I closed the left-rear door and suddenly I saw the "park" light come on, I turned the ignition key and the car started up and ran fine, and had been "fine" since that time. I installed a new Interstate Battery a few months ago.

I'm assuming there is a corroded connection somewhere. It seems like if this was a power relay or anti-theft issue, there would still be power to the dash, etc. Feedback welcomed....

I believe the QP has the key release on the boot lid, hence no pull cord. Are you really sure there isn't a key release hole covered by a blanking plate?

Can you get the bonnet open? I think there's a battery point there that will allow you to get volts to it.

Tend to agree of you've got a bad connection somewhere

Hello CatmanV2. I do not see any tiny access hole, or a plate / plug covering any hole around the ignition cylinder. Yes I can open the bonnet, and will do so this evening, remove the covers and start looking for any obvious issues. I'll report back.

Hopefully a QP owner will be along shortly!

Just an FYI....from the other Maserati forum, a highly respected and knowledgeable member has stated that there is no emergency release cable for the boot on the M139 (trunk).

There’s no release cable, just the key, but that’s stuck in the ignition. Awkward one.

To open the boot on a QP, key in lock (near number plate lights) turn key and press DOWN on boot lid as same time. Sounds daft but it's correct!

Hi Wanderer - unfortunately my one and only key is currently captured in the ignition switch, and I do not see any tiny access hole, or a plug to remove...to gain access to manually remove the key. I will get access to the boot by other means....

I thought there was a tiny button to release the key, I'll look in my manual....

I cannot check at the moment but I think there is a small plastic plug near the ignition which if you remove and push very small screwdriver or paperclip in it will release the key..

Hello Gazcw...yes I know the small plug that you are referring to, I recall that being on my old 2006 QP Sport-GT, but my current QP does not have this plug. Nor is there any tiny hole to insert a paper clip or similar...

Problem fixed...! The issue was the positive battery cable was only 2/3 of the way down on the battery post. I loosened the clamp, removed the cable, cleaned everything, pushed the cable all the way down on the post, and tightened the clamp. I was never able to get the key out of the ignition, so I did some disassembly of items and was able to access the boot.

Several people have asked me how I got into the boot (trunk) without a key and with no power, but I'd rather not post this information on a public forum. If anyone wants to know, I can message you privately.
