Not all USB ports are equal - the USB Icon/symbols tell you what each port is capable of. The port on the 2009 Bose NIT is not supposed to charge and is only used for uploading music. The AUX port in the glovebox will allow you to use an iPod* and control it from the steering wheel etc. The issue is that the Aux in does charge older iPods but will not charge newer iPods where the power requirements are different. There is however an adapter that will allow you to charge iPod 4 etc.

Apple Changed the voltage system in their products from 4th generation products upwards in 2007/2008. This meant charging problems with certain docking stations such as the Bose Series 1 / First Generation. This adapter will solve this problem. This adaptor changes the charge voltage from 12V to 5V which will enable devices such as iPhone 3gs/4/4s, iPod's; Nanos, Classic iPod, iPad and iTouch etc, and it will charge your Apple device whilst your listening to it on your chosen docking station (no more draining the battery, and having to re-charge separately! Works with any iPhone, iPod and iPad charging system that was designed to charge the older 12V Apple devices
My experience with an 09 QP with Bose is that the iphone 5 does not connect well / reliably on Bluetooth but the iphone 6 is bulletproof
The Layen adapter works but it can disconnect so some tape was needed and i had a spare iphone 5 that i use for this that sits in the glovebox and typically stays charged if it is in airline mode etc.
I have Spotify on the iphone5 in the glovebox with the adapter but it cannot be controlled from the steering wheel etc. though it does display the artist and track... would be great if i could get this to work from the steering wheel controls but no joy so far.
