2008 GT front passenger seat issue

Hello everyone. Newbie here. I have a 2008 GT. had it for four years. Last year the front passenger seat stopped going forward or back. At the moment it is stuck in the back position. I've tried the reset. I tried the battery reset. I've checked the fuse. All other functions to the seat are working. My problem is that I can't even move the seat forward to remove it and change the motor (if thats what it needs) so I'm stuck. Is there any way to remove the seat and access the motors while the seat is stuck in the back position? Is there any way to move the seat forward without power? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Mines the same, but it's stopped in the right position. There might be a Allen key bolt somewhere so that it can be wound forward.

I have looked everywhere for such an Allen key. It does make sense for it to exist but it’s hiding from me. Also I’ve never seen or read anything about it on any forums. So if there is anyone out there who knows anything please don’t be shy. Thanks.

I’ve not seen it, but I guess the hard part is getting a tool into the rear bolts. For tight spots like this I have cut the end off of an Allen key just long enough to allow the end of a spanner to reach. Much lower profile than anything off the shelf.

it rises from the front but the rear doest rise. So the action I have is the front going up and down and the back rest going back and forth.

Depending on what your seat does under the seat should be the block plastic electrical connectors

One will be seat motor, another could be air bag, and a third could be heated seat. Try and check if there is any loose connections.

Does the passenger seat work ok?

Have you tried while sitting pushing back and forth while pushing the seat button?

As Zep mentioned if you could get to the back bolts from under the seat, and undo the front you could lift the seat out (Unfortunately my cars away at the moment so cant say what clearance there is)

You would have to disconnect the battery and undo what ever block connectors under the seat if lifting out.

Hi there.
I cant get to the back bolts because the seat rail is covering it. I also have a 1997 Mercedes 500sl with electric seats. had the same issue with that a few years ago but Mercedes in their wisdom made it easy to actually lift the leather seat cushion so you can get to all the electrics without having to take the seat out. Is there a way to do that on the Mass??

Could you get at the rail and cut it with a disk cutter so as to get at the bolts? As mentioned my cars away so am just groping in the dark here as to what space you have

I've just noticed that this is in the Ghibli, QPVI and Levante section - I'll move it to the GT / QPV section now.

On another note, as you seem to have motor or switch failure, you could try locating the plug and putting 12v directly. Also try locating and thumping the motor to jog the commutator into working.

Hi there.
I tried knocking the motor with no result. I can't really put power to it just to test the motor because the seat is stuck in the very back position and I can't remove it. If I just undo the bolt in the front and force it to lift in the front I will just end up bending the rails. That will be another issue.

Under my seat there is a motor on the left with a long tube coming out that goes into the side rail.(I think its this that drives the seat forward and back) the screws on the motor facing the front are 20t torx I have managed to undo one but today i bought a longet T20 screwdriver so will try to undo the other,
Once i can get at the motor i hope i can take the tube from the front of the motor and put an electric drill onto it, in the hope that it will drive the rail and allow me to get at the back bolts.I have to say I am not sure if this will work but i will give it a try.

Whoever invented electric seats? What a waste.
They should certainly be designed with failure / removal in mind.

I recall the seat in one of my XJ,s failing due to wires getting pinched when reclining.A complete nightmare for the jag technician and car was off the road for 10 days !! Thankfully under warranty.

OK Success

I did not explain very well in my last post so will try again.

First of all my car is a 2003 4200 right hand drive spyder. So it may not work in other models.

This for the back and forward movement on the seat

Looking under the seat on the left is the motor with a white tube coming out of the front and going into the right hand side rail.

In this white tube is actually a drive shaft, the motor turns the shaft and in turn drives the cogs in the side rail that moves the seat.

The motor is held on with 2 T20 torx Screws you will need a long handled driver to get to them Right hand screw is easy to get too. Left one is at an angle but you can bend the motor/bracket to get to it.

The power cable is attached to the motor and I switched off the battery and just cut it as I could not get to the connector (can be sorted once the seat is out)

I just pulled the white tube/drive shaft out of the motor and attached my drill to the end so that the drill turns the shaft and in turn moves the seat!!!

Make sure the shaft is fully in the white tube if it is pulled out too much it wont engage with the side rail cog
