Its very interesting Frank...For some only a GS will do and for those who can not stretch then a 4200 facelift fits the bill......We have all discussed this a lot of te last 3 years.......A good 4200 face lift is not that different to drive than a GS but the one thing that makes a difference is that the GS will probably hole its value better for years to some and probably go up in price........The 4200 probably no so.........Me, I would just take either of them..I'm not that fussy...

10K means free driving for 3/4 years......not to be sniffed at...granted less GSs about.......for sale but how much rarer are they?

well worth it for me as newcomer to the brand. The 4200 looks nice, the GS takes those looks to a whole new level of sexiness and desirability. Just shows how a cars styling can be so heavily influenced by a few small tweaks here and there. Spend 10k more to buy, get it back when you sell so its not like the additional outlay to get into a GS is lost come sale time

I'm not so sure if there are less GS's over a face lift 4200.......Would be inetrested to see the difference.....

Interesting Frank that back in 2005/2006 a face lift 4200 GT was 57k and a GS was 67k so 10k difference - The 4200 face lift CC was 59k so 8k difference.....

Interesting info Andy.......but....where is the £10K difference though...not in performance, not in overall looks, not in finish or extra equipment...merely to say its a "new" model?

Yes agree Frank.....There is not 10k difference between the 2 cars.......After driving both I found this out........The GS to me looks better but then 10k is a lot to spend on looks alone.......OK so it also handles better but you can get the 4200 to handle as well if not better by spending a few K....Arguements for and against Frank for sure...But you put forward a very strong case....

I'd not spend 10k on that premium. There are cheaper GS's and more expensive 4200s though.

If it wasn't for the infotainment, I don't think I'd even consider a GS. I suspect I'll start upspeccing the 4200 next year once I've 'got used' to it ;)

Does the 4200 really need up-specced..........you can adjust suspension components, they use same items............plus as I bleat on about...the real weak link is whose behind the wheel to extract max performance......

In reality after 8 years that £10k original differential should now be around £6k max............

In the last five years I've owned a pre facelift 4200, a facelift and now a GS.

Has every one felt to me like a step up? Definitely. The GS feels the sportiest, IMHO best looking, best sounding and best handling of the three I've owned.

There's been loads of "justify the difference" threads over the past 2-3 years, never started by GS owners which I think says something :) going over the same arguments but whatever the outcome I agree that 10K cannot be justified in tangible terms.

That's not the point. Most buy Maserati with heart not head do they not?

The market commands a premium of around 10k GS over facelift so whatever we think - it is what it is.

We all drive Masers!! That's enough to be happy about I think!

Absolutely Frank.

Everyone has to decide what they want to pay.

I agree every day's an occasion when you have a Maserati.

Having said that Dem.......the 3200 was the re-born Maserati Spa's first off spring.......always difficult to live up to high expectations/standards and gradually things improved year by year and model by model......

Lowering works a treat as far as i'm concerned but the CC software is best left alone if it has not been updated to the max for the year, Sofast, Sofast2 etc
I think that the software of the earlier 2002 models was softened up in the upgrade so if it hasn't been upgraded its maybe better left. But I doubt that there are many if any that haven't been upgraded.
The later models have different hardware and there software function is considered to be better I believe.
