We can obtain the following:

Mitex General UHF 5W, Twin Pack (2 Radios) @ £120.00 Fully Inclusive.
Mitex Sport VHF 5W, Single Unit @ £75.00 Fully Inclusive.

If you want one of the above, the twin packs we can split up if we have sufficient numbers, then please add your name below:

UHF Units

Davy83 x 1
Blondie x 2
Hodroyd x 1
Arfa x 1

When we have enough for a reasonable order, I will request everyone listed forward transfer the required funds to me.

Well done Robert £120 is better than what I was quoted via Maplin, I'll have a (half share) in a pair of General UHF.

I would go on the list and also happy to share with AN other if it helps! I could pick it up in Dover when we meet up for the ferry?

Be advised the UHF and VHF handsets are non compatible as they work on different frequencies. The lower the frequency, the longer the range so the Mitex General (VHF) are the ones to go for. Let's all stick to the same ones!

So you are saying go for the VHF which are the longer range, rather then the UHF that SCD use (according to Tilum) and that members could sell on if they wanted to..?? Which is correct then UHF or VHF..??

Ben, the Mitex General are the UHF ones (not the VHF ones). But yes, best to all stick to the same bandwidth, i.e. UHF (Mitex General 5W), which is what we use on SCD runs.

Apologies, you are correct. However, I've just looked at the box mine came in and I've got the General (UHF). Either everyone in the SCD has the General or the two sets are compatible!

SCD have the General UHF 5W, the Sport VHF 5W is not compatible with the UHF, so are we going with the UHF..?? I know the VHF are longer range as a norm, but the UHF may just work better from inside a car. I used to be in Radio some years ago and shielding was always a problem with VHF in vehicles, so all had to have external antenna to get the range..!! I might just ask to try some VHF to find out the difference in use..!!

Sounds like a plan! The UHF work well enough so they would do the job. However, If everyone else wants VHF put me down for one. Cheers mate.

Seems like we're all going with UHF, as per Ben and myself, and the rest of the SCD bunch. Should make them easier to sell on to new SCD members if SM members don't wish to keep theirs after the Centenary trip is over.

The UHF are FM and so the clarity of voice transmission should be clearer. I meant to read my work's Business Use (simple) license to see if we could get away 'transferring' ownership to my work...I'm sure it's feasible not that we'll bother anyone for long...

VHF is for open spaces, line of sight, then very good range and why marine radios are VHF, no hills in the way!
UHF are the ones to use, and these 'licenced' 5w units are as good as you can get, and a very good deal at £120 the pair.
I just have one question, unlike the 'licence free' half watt 'toy' walkie talkies you need a £75/5 year licence (officially), but what's the situation with using them in Europe? Is the radio frequency used by say emergency services and they will be very unhappy hearing an English speaking voice?...I don't know?

Simple to check each channel for traffic and use a free one, if that then get's busy, change to another..?? We should not be using them all the time, only when required, otherwise we could be swooped on, but I very much doubt it as we will not be stationary..!!
