Having a browse on AT and one thing that struck me with the GS is that out of the 10 for sale 6 of these are under 26k and the cheapest is at 22995. A year ago you would be lucky to see one under 25k but now there is a few to choose from. OK yes mileage etc will have an effect but seems it could be a better time to buy if in the market. You need to like black though as 9 of them are black.

I think a factor in all of this is the depreciation of the newer Maserati models... If you have £25-30k to spend you are spoilt for choice on 4.2/4.7 GranTourismo or 3-4 year old Ghibli.. along with things like QPV 4.7 GTS and the QP VI diesel can be had at the low £30k's

The GS or 4200 are not that sought after yet so they are feeling the hit from the depreciation of the other tipos, give it 5 years or so when these cars will be scarcer and values should become more stable

Yep agreed, second hand car market is on its knees right now for most marques. It worked in favour when buying the Ghibli but against when selling the GTS.

The MCV isn't commanding much more nowadays either.

'twas the same 8 months ago when I sold the GTS and bought the Vantage, Phil. I checked with my calcolatore di matematica dell'uomo (it's Italian) and it said I was quids in on the deal. Mrs Crud begged to differ, but that's womans for you.

Even though not much appreciation it is still free motoring as I think I’d get more for my GS than I bought it for... maybe

If you don't add in maintenance or fuel into your calculations, then yes Maserati ownership is free...

Well as I do all my own maintenance and get huge enjoyment from doing it and also every mile is a smile, I'd say my Maserati ownership is free to me :)

Don't forget these are all old cars now and do suffer old car related problems..

Nothing to worry about though, as long as you bear this in mind when buying one!

As Newton says fix it yourself and your onto a winner;)

Not being a Newton I wouldn't have clue how or what to fix. I can put fuel, oil, water in and check tyre pressures and that's where it ends for me. Weird as my dad was a mechanic.

That's a shame Andy as you're a total petrol head.
My Dad was in the trade all his life as was his father.
I'm one of 8 boys and the only one who followed.
It has certainly meant that i have had a great time with my motors.
My Project 4200 was certainly free motoring and turned a nice bit of coin when I sold it in NZ.
