You can buy Pirelli from Quick Fit on line very cheap and get your dealer to fit them........cheaper than buying from a dealer

Pat, as I discussed with you on Saturday night (lovely GF, Brenda by the way) the GTS will suit you.

As you know, we both have taken a near identical tack with our cars over the past 10 years, and I know, you will love this car. The reason for it is not out and out performance, its the sheer presence of the thing. When you drive it you feel like your piloting the Starship Enterprise, its just epic.

The GTS is a very Germanic car, without a doubt, Maserati have done their homework with this one and are balls out gunning for the Mercedes AMG, BMW M and Audi RS market and they have done a fine job without loosing that Italian'ness we all hanker after.

If you can find the funds, go do it, don't think twice.

Walked past a black one in Belgravia this evening, looks like it had tubis too. The epitome of Italian coolness. (If you ignore the banana that was sticking out of the cup holder, that is...)

MAF at his age sneezing is tantamount to an orgasm. For an old boy he sure did 'hold his own' last weekend!

Pat, just do it, besides Brenda will look sweet in the passenger seat!

Thanks for all of the advice folks - will try to get some pictures up in due course - it's actually the same colour scheme as Matt's car (just a GT though!) I think - Metallic nero carbonio (?) with bordeaux interior and 20" birdcages in grigio mercury. Tyres definitely only seem to be available from Pirelli or Bridgestone & Continental in the relevant size - 285/35x20 so there isn't a great deal of choice - the Pirellis come in around £370.00 fitted each, the Conti's around £300.00 and the Bridgestone in the middle. Planning on keeping it long enough to get through a set of tyres so may try an alternative to the Pirelli and let you know how it performs - got a pal with an F430 who said he preferred the Conti to the Pirelli and they seemed to have a better wear for him.

I have to agree with Conaero on it - The GT/GTS has got so much presence on the road and people seem to love it - an entire Italian family got on the bonnet when I was in traffic so they could take a picture with it! Apart from the current wonk with the electrics it definitely feels as solid and well built as my previous car - Audi A5.

Couple of further comments for anyone's future reference:

1) Tyres - Actually Kwik-Fit currently the cheapest I could find in London, a shade under £350.00/per wheel for the rear tyres fitted. That was for Pirelli P-Zero, decided to stick with the OEM equipment, will review based on how these new ones wear.
2) Electric fault potentially appears to be traced back to the Navtrak unit - under their service agreement Navtrak came out to check the fault (FOC) and basically replaced the entire Navtrak unit and battery with a new model. The engineer did follow this up with 'it might or might not have been causing the problem' - I can't imagine that they would just fit a brand new unit if there was not a fault evident though!

1) Not surprising - KF are cheapest full stop at the moment for 20" P Zeros but it can change anytime; and
2) I have had good service from Navtrak so far given that mine did not work from the factory. My cards were changed from the Maserati branded ones to the smaller plain ones which work better.

I would buy the tyrees from Kwik Fit but I wouldn't chance them fitting them........those wheels are too precious to risk any damage

Ill go along with that^^^^

Andrew, the GT and GTS exhaust I think are very different, well, the back end at at least. Ill try and look it up on Eurospares and see what's what when I get a mo.

Back to the original question on the battery:

1) Never jump start the car (echoing an earlier comment)
2) Get a better battery. The OEM FIAM goes Flat In a Minute (geddit). I've had the red top gel battery also, which was a bit better but not great. Not sure about Varta. What I currently have seems to survive a couple of weeks no problem (rare for me), I will get the name of it for you.

ps - a Halfords home trickle charger will do the job if you have no sockets in your garage. Just remove battery, plug in overnight and jobsaguddun.

Just like to say that I have been turning of my isolator every time I leave my car in the garage as I only use it once a week, for the past two years and it seems to be easier than using a trickle charger, even when I had a tracker fitted

Question - is the GTS exhaust the same as the 4.2 GT

GTS exhaust is different to the 4.2

MC Shift 4.7 has valves that open the pipes in Sport at all revs and the pipe ends are a pair of ovals. Auto 4.7 still has the four rear round pipes as the 4.2 but has the valves like the MC Shift but they only open at >3k revs in Sport.

FWIW FD in the US sell a kit to control the valves as you see fit with a plip. 'Ice Auto' with valves open appeals to me at the moment on winter mornings.
