Would be interested to know about the 08 registration. If the last GranSports came off the production line in 06 (which I have been told by at least 2 sources) then why do we see 08 - and even 09 - registered cars? Were they just kept in the Modena factory and then exported later on?

You get this with lots of end of runs..................some are kept at showrooms, cancelled orders, HQ company cars which might not have been used....a whole raft of reasons as to why it took 1/2 years to register them.

My guess (and it is a guess) is that they were hanging around the dealer network, possibly on display in showrooms. When you think back, the world was falling apart late 07 onwards and Maserati were still just being re-established as a brand (IMO the QP and GS are what really underlined their pedigree, with a huge helping hand from the 3200). As such, a £66k GS might not have been going out the showroom like hotcakes.

Fast forward a few years, the GT has further underlined the brands quality and desirablility and it seems that the cars are very much in demand.

GranTurismos are very much in demand. Why I would pay £55k retail for a three year old one is beyond me but that is now much the brand has improved. Hasn't helped 4200/GS prices though.

It would've been that they were hanging around in the network. As a gransport fanatic I would say that they were better value as they are far quicker than a gt and a gts is about 25k more expensive. For me I would've thought it would have been a disappointment for those owners who got out of a gransport into a gt. Performance is poorer on all counts as far as I've read. It would be interesting to hear from those who did trade up. It is pretty much regarded across the board that the gt is better looking and more refined but don't we buy maseratis for the thrill of driving for which a gts is the only place to go after owning the almost flawless gransport ?
I've now gone off on a tangent, sorry but the late ones were still good value cars in my opinion especially if they were offering discounts at the time.

Dicky I agree...I was not taken by the GT when I drove one...It just was not a step on from the GS as far as performance is concerned...........Even if the GT is such a stuning car I wouldn't have one over a GS......GT S is a different matter.

I will want to upgrade in 2011/12 but the stats on the 4.2 GranTurismo are worrying - 15 more bhp than my manual 4200 but 200 more kilos.

I do wonder if the 4.2 GT will get passed by with everyone wanting the 4.7?

If it does, then there may well be quite a price differential....:)

It sounds like that if everyone on this forum is anything to go by. We're all Maserati mad enthusiasts though. I reckon that an ever increasing number of buyers will be buying into the brand when the gt hits 40k. My thought is that these buyers will in the main be those looking for something different to what Porsche and Ferrari have to offer, also practicality. If you want a 'practical' Porsche with a family it's got to be one of those ridiculously ugly panameras, Ferrari too dear for most if you're talking 599 and 612's. M5, RS4, 55AMG's lack the exclusivity of a Maserati. Therefore the gt will appeal to many and if they're then not comparing it to a gransport then I suppose it stacks up pretty well. Those who really know what they're on about will wait for a gts, myself included but it could be a long wait. Quality is far better than 10 years ago but unfortunately for second hand buyers, the market has now realised that hence the gt holding its money better than any other car %wise(read that recently). I reckon when the gts is 6 years old it'll still be worth 50% of new value whereas 3 years loses 50% or more on a top spec gransport, not to mention the list price being way more in the first place. Does mean for the likes of myself with no more money to throw at cars then it's gonna have to be a qp or stray from the brand as a gts is out of my reach for three years or more. Just chuffed to have a 2 year old gransport for half price, still can't believe they're such good value, feels like 50 grand's worth to me!

Saw some in February at 56k. Now late 40's? Gt will be 40k by January '11 but gts will still be over 60 I thinks.

The thing with the GT is that it looks so good that some will not be able to resist its looksover a GS.......I know all the reviews say that th auto box is better than the CC and a step on but I just didn't find it that way.....But hey the GT is not a GS replacement it is a different type of car...the gearbox and size has seen to that...

Thankfully I come with the baggage of owning a 4200GT rather than a GS so the step up/down (?) to a GT is less acute for me. I will be changing gearboxes whichever GT I buy as my car is manual. The one thing I like about going from a manual to a full auto (done it before with German stuff) is that the full auto can mask any performance disadvantage with its ability to downshift a couple of gears and deal with the situation that way.

Obviously the price differential 4.2 to 4.7 GT is affected a lot by the fact that the 4.2 was available for 18+ months before the 4.7 came out which makes the differential £10k+ straight away based just on age. As the first 4.7's get to two years old next spring I suspect that they will be c£60k retail. That will allow a three and a half year old 4.2 to drop to £40k retail IMHO - £20k less, £10k of that age, £10k of that the premium a 4.7 will have. At £40k with a proper warranty and sub 30k miles, I might be tempted by a 4.2 as I, like mainly, will find the 4.7 too expensive for at least another two years on top of waiting until mid 2011 - could always go for that DMS remap!
