REPLACEMENT FOR THE 458

Lovely car Iain, congratulations. Really far out in styling, Aston stepped it up a notch there and it has an amazing presence.

I have spent what seems like 2 years humming and hawing over where to go next, in that time you have made 2 changes!

What were your real closing thoughts on the 458? It is still pretty close to my dream car, in spider form. I dabbled with a 650s which (unlike 90% of this forum swear) is an amazing drive, but I can't quite gell with the brands identity (or, to be honest, where future values are going). My Ferrari adventures have been curtailed by not wanting to be the member of the club, that would have me as a member. And then there's those funny coloured shoes, sweater drapped around ones neck, and pretending to know 'everybody' who's who....

I love the 458 and the spider. I suppose it depends on what one wants out of a car. I never felt particularly comfortable with it. It was too expensive to keep in the garage and hardly drive, and too impractical to use much. I loved the California ironically - it always felt special, good value and usable - but the 458 felt like a toy that was not essential. Nothing compares to the DB11 and that shocked me. I never had a particular aston itch to scratch- and always considered myself a ‘Ferrari man’ rather than Aston. The aston dealers said very few people switched between the two. I was excited about this one because of the spec- and the DB11 has grown on me. I am just spellbound when I look at it and get in it and even more so on driving. I never expected to be. The V8 is certainly a sports car - but luxurious enough to use as a daily. If I had 300k to spend I would get a DB11 and a 458- but If I had to choose one it would be this every time.

There is only one way mclaren prices are going! Benny summed up the problems with them. Shame as they look stunning. But anyone who gets one over a Ferrari either has more money than sense, wants to lose lots of money or has huge amounts of money, sense and just doesn’t care!

Thanks mate. I would love to keep it in the forum. I have seen no other DB11 with this spec so I am hoping it will be desirable when the time comes to move it on. It will still be around 10,000 miles when I am finished with it.. so should be a good deal. I arrived at the hospital today to hear another one arriving...one of the patients had a grey one. Hadn’t seen any others in Wales before that. He paid 184 for it last year (67 plate). Couldn’t bear to tell him what I paid for mind with around 25k more spec....

Timing could be perfect then - still miss my old DB7 V12

That’s bloody lovely! I like volantes but it wouldn’t fit my child seat in the back- and I prefer the shape of this coupe.

Is the Rapide a stretched four-door DB9 or DB11?

Rapide is next on my list when my Q's pay off.....

Rapide is based on DB9. Big difference in age and technology of platforms between these and a DB11.

Lovely car Iain.
Looked at several when my car was in for a service. Some bold colours but nothing like yours . Congratulations and enjoy.
Not sure I will be able to change marque now. You may be the same.

You need to change your name to needtokeepanaston.

This forum is home to a few closet AM owners. Come out of the woodwork, all of you; be not ashamed, be proud!

I remember when I first told @conaero that I had an Aston. I was terrified that he'd be cross, ashamed or would somehow reject me, cast me out into the wilderness. Instead, I was touched by how well he took it. He's even been happy to include me and my new partner at some Maserati events. He has said that it's difficult with some of the older members because they're less understanding, so I just pretend to be 'between cars', but I can still go along. Some people have said that they've always known I'd have an Aston one day, but I never realised. Anyway, it's just how I am more even than a lifestyle choice.

PS - I'm still bang up for a hard thrash in a Fezza or Maser at any point, mind.

Drove the Spyder over to the garage for a timing belt change and to try and eliminate some of the vagaries of 30 year old electrics and realised just how much I enjoy driving it too.

As a couple of you have Kindly encouraged me to share my experiences of a new Marque, I will attach some photos and initial impressions. I grudgingly moved from Italian Works of art to something a bit more usable. As one of my colleagues said - it may be more usable- but it doesn't blend in! I am not sure in this spec and colour combination many non car lovers would have any idea what it was. Its very stealth and has the most carbon / black options I have ever seen.
2018 DB11. 2000 miles. V8. Black with Red callipers and red contrast stitching. Carbon Badge pack plus Carbon interior and exterior bodykit packs. Exterior black pack, clouded tail lights etc. Interior black pack including satin black metal paddles and satin black metal on the dash. All the tech upgrades. The most luxurious seats I have ever sat in, and a stereo to die for. 192 list price.

I was more excited to have it delivered than either of my Ferraris for some reason. All my family and friends were certainly more receptive to it. Sadly, I think I will have to stop looking on auto trader for at least 12-18 months until the Portofino comes into a reasonable price range and I can consider it as a replacement. The top gear review sums it up - the DB11 will make you look cool even if you aren't. So its the perfect car for the time being!

Thoughts appreciated. Any mention of the Superleggera will be ignored. My wife wouldn't let me.
Brilliant move but you knew I would agree!
