Truss has said that business energy prices will be capped to the same level as domestic for a minimum of the next 6 months. Pubs etc will be relieved at the news, at least in the short term.
And we trained the Swiss - ours has been at 15degC always - if a room warms to 17 it feels hot.Turns out I've been trying for years to persuade Mrs Crud to be more Swiss.
It would help if planning depts supported it. We have been trying to get permission to build a sealed Passivhaus with lots of environmental tech we will fully fund that will use zero energy. Possibly even might generate excess energy if we max out the tech. All at our cost and zero cost to the govt or tax payers.Europe and UK governments certainly can't say they haven't been warned, I expect most wealthy EU governments to pay this winter's energy bills with credit if necessary.
Assuming the poorest are protected from the worst price increases, I'd like to think that the population of the UK is more prepared to do their bit than perhaps we think. If we had a decent government I'd think they'd be messaging the population more clearly on this subject.
We'll see how it goes.
Agreed, it solves zero. Just diverted the issues for another day. There was a clear and easy solution that was obvious to anyone with half a brain cell. However that didn't fit the political or corporate narratives. Can kicked…..billions the cost.
Solves nothing.
Like your stuff Rockits, but this a bit lengthy. For the record I don't think profits should be taxed any different to what they normally should be to create fair also balanced taxes for all. I'm a firm believer in capitalist and free markets. Businesses need healthy profits to survive and provide good products/services for all.
What I have issues with is excess profits in a crisis. These need to be capped and should not be allowed. Regulators/govts need to do this and is their very job that they are paid to do.
If we curbed excess profits for energy companies and Pharma's the burden to the state thus taxpayers would be considerably less. As would the profits of the very companies profiteering with excess profits during a pandemic it energy crisis.
However, that doesn't fit the corrupt narratives of corrupt regulators, corrupt govts and corrupt corporates of course. It continues if we let it but can be changed if enough people decide enough is enough. You feel tables are turning a little, slowly but the more they squeeze the more those tables will turn.
Most normal people might think they have gone far enough but that is the problem with the disease that is greed.....enough is never enough. They will be the masters of their own downfall by continuing along the path of blind selfish greed. Then when it all implodes they have lost their little scam forever.
I surprised that they haven't looked at their lighting, gambling machines, TVs etc. Some pubs do waste electricity. I'm sure some efficiencies can be made in energy use.
Blimey Wattie, that’s the sort of cobblers that racist rat Nick Griffin comes out with.WEF, New World order, great reset.
Blimey Nibby, Thats the sort of naivityI expect uninformed to come out with.Blimey Wattie, that’s the sort of cobblers that racist rat Nick Griffin comes out with.
Settle ladies.Blimey Nibby, Thats the sort of naivityI expect uninformed to come out with.
I suggest you do some research.
All greedy people look after their own interest, that’s how they have nice houses and not a high rise flat in Edmonton Green.Greedy people and govts are looking after their own interests not yours.
Or worse the Gold CoastAll greedy people look after their own interest, that’s how they have nice houses and not a high rise flat in Edmonton Green.
Agreed. All greedy people look after their own interest, that’s how they have nice houses and not a high rise flat in Edmonton Green.
Yes compared to this time last year, our electricity will cost us x4 more, and gas x5 more.New cap rates are out. From 1 Oct the kwh rates are up approx 21% for electricity and 40% for gas. It's a strange world when this is a result. I remember paying about 10p per kwh for electricity not that long ago and the 34p that is incoming is now a relief!
Get rid of gas. I did one year ago exactly today and I've only used 2300kWh of electricity since.Yes compared to this time last year, our electricity will cost us x4 more, and gas x5 more.
Since then we now have solar which has reduced significantly our electricity cost, but does nothing for our gas usage in winter.
New legislation covering the country’s energy supply will make heating homes to more than 19°C unlawful in the event of an energy shortage. In addition, hot water should not be heated to more than 60 degrees, and portable electric heaters, saunas, and heated swimming pools are prohibited.
To note, the World Health Organization has long held that a temperature no colder than 20°C is recommended for children, the elderly, and those with existing health conditions.
Sadly you are mistaken, the energy trust has long recommended that no space is heated above 19 deg C and cooled below 24 deg C. This 30 year old document doesn’t say what you say it says. The very young are not children, they are new born babies. The very old are not the elderly, they are the very old. Those with existing health conditions are not necessarily the sick, as in people with acute medical conditions. This is made clear in the next paragraph, where it states that “there is evidence the temperatures below 12 deg C are a health risk to the elderly (note: not the very old), the sick (note: not those with pre-existing medical conditions), the handicapped and pre school (note: not the very young) children”. Then, by definition, there is no evidence of harm to those groups above 12 deg C.

I do wonder where you get some of the stuff you come up with, why you keep doing it and what should be done about it. I have no doubt you are smart enough to understand the information you are referencing, so to my mind you are either:
A) not reading it and reposting it from some other uninformed / misrepresenting source or
B) deliberately misrepresenting it to further your political view / agenda.
Regardless of whether it is A or B (I think it’s A, no one has time to seek out WHO documents from ‘91, based on research from the 80’s), stop. This is not the platform you are looking for. If you feel you cannot stop indulging in this misrepresentation / regurgitation, let me know and I will assist.
For everyone else, despite what Wattie thinks he is saying, you can turn down your thermostat to below 19 without risking injury, providing you are older than 6 months and not very frail. It saves a lot of energy / money. In fact, just use your best judgement.
