However, if my other plans allow it. I'm going to go out this summer and teach English.

If you can make that happen that would be an amazing thing to do.

I don’t have any connection with Ukraine and don’t even know any Ukrainians personally, but I feel highly motivated to do something.
I have dontated money (let’s hope that get to the right place) so at least I feel I have done something as I won’t be joining their new foreign legion.

But looking ahead when this ends, there will be many more options to help and I will look to get involved.

SWIFT - Its pretty telling that the only real sanction that would punish Russia has not been implemented till now it would seem. Germany is said to be investigating ways of banning “certain Russian banks” from SWIFT so as not to cause stress to the global financial system.
Implementing this would certainly be a huge problem for Russia.
Worth a read.

Nice trip out east, all expenses paid...

  • Also this morning, Zelensky announced that Ukraine is setting up an "international" legion of volunteers for foreigners wishing to join the Ukrainian army in its fight against Russian forces

It seems that in this conflict there is little reporting from the front line so it’s hard to gauge what’s really going on.
It does seem tho that given they have had months to prepare the Ukrainians haven’t prepared their defence in depth.
Feels very hap hazard. Russian helicopters flying round at will and troop transporters flying in to airfields.

I have friends from, friends who have lived in, and many colleagues in Ukraine. We have an office in a town about 50km from Ukraine's eastern border with Russia and which now contains Russian soldiers. God knows what will happen to our friends and colleagues there, but they are resilient, determined and doing their best in any way they can. As we are for them, but this feeling of immense impotence is horrible.

Does anyone else think it doesn't look or feel like a proper invasion , there are videos of columns of destroyed russian vehicles , tanks with no fuel , kids in Russian uniforms doing their national service who are quite surprised at where they are because they told they were going on exercise (according to some reports)

The video where some old guy offered to tow their tank back to Russia was full of kids .

Where's the russian air force

There are large demonstrations in many russian cities , the government has told Russians America is the aggressor for decades but now they have social media they can see it's Russia and they're not happy.

Based on what I can see and read it appears more like an invasion carried out in no small part by people who are a bit confused about what's going on, ordered by an isolated, deeply paranoid man who for the last two years has barely had any human contact other than with simpering, terrified yes-men.

It probably feels very much like an invasion to Ukraine, though.

I agree to a Ukrainian it would feel like an invasion , to me it looks like Putin pushed the button without having the resources ready to support the invasion just to save face , he couldn't back down because that would make him look weak.

How can we be back in a 1930s situation where one man can start a war.

Sadly this is the thing we should all worry about, easy tj say it won’t escalate, but we are dealing with a guy who won’t back down, a guy who has threatened the world with his nuclear capability and dusted down his intercontinental nuclear warheads.

Someone needs to put a gun to his temple and pull the trigger …….

Looks like Mazepin will lose his seat at Haas. Clearly there's no point in having a talentless pay driver if you cannot get paid. Save on the crash budget. Pietro Fittipaldi will take his seat.

Mazepin, who clearly supports Putin has felt the wrath of Clarkson via Twitter after Mazepin was questioned about the war and deflected with sports and politics shouldn't mix.

My sister has been spotting a lot of russian private jets this afternoon leaving Moscow and St Petersburg, heading West. I wonder what that is all about?
