thanks for that. Its new for me and not a lot of covers done as far as i have seen. just a few. Hope it of interest to some owners.Hydrodipping is nothing new. I think there's a thread from waaay back on here.
The engine covers are big bland bits of black plastic that scream out to be hydrodipped. I've not seen much of it done recently but you've reminded to look for someone local to me to do mine.thanks for that. Its new for me and not a lot of covers done as far as i have seen.
Interesting point. I'm conflicted. The Strad bonnet is matt carbon inside as we all know and doesnt look that good when lifted IMO. Its a bit dull. The rest of the carbon on the car (Mirrors, spoiler, door handles, front splitter, internal bits) are all high gloss, so i was thinking of going that way. Ive seen other bits his done in the flesh in black carbon high gloss and they look very nice. Lets see what he says, i will ask him. thanks for the thought.I would say in high gloss they will look tacky. A satin or Matt may work better but that’s just my personal opinion, you crack on
Think of the added weight!The underside of the bonnet is just not lacquered because it's not supposed to be seen. You can get that sprayed with a clear coat.
I would be interested and we know a hydro dip is £400. I have seen them for sale for £1500 which is totally excessive for something hidden most of the time.I'm partially started on making CF replicas of the original plastic covers. It's something I have all the kit for (for vacuum infusion) but not managed as of late. I have created the GRP mold, just need to crack on. I was going to to do this for myself, but once I have the molds done and refined, I wondered who else would be interested and what the willingness to pay number would be. It would be gloss, as per other carbon parts on these cars.

I saw that also, but i think its for the front cover only, not including the smaller rear ones. I also saw the rear ones elsewhere for £1500 coincidently. So its £3K form what i could find, i agree £1500 is totally excessive for this, hence why i felt the price for the dip was just about justifiable... justI would be interested and we know a hydro dip is £400. Agree with all you say. Fancy fibreglass then .It's not fibreglass but I get your point, it is ridiculous. The work is in getting the mold right frankly, after that point I'd really question that amount of margin on it, apart from your standard 'carbon fibre + italian car' TAX. It'd be good to target the whole set at a price of less than a grand, for sure.
