Hmmm. Are they supposed to go on fire?

Not quite fire but a horrible burning rubber smell and a ton of smoke from under the car by the drivers door. Great.

Plastic bag on the exhaust? I assume everything was still working?

Got the smell after about 5 minutes of sitting in traffic from cold. Immediately headed home. Didn't notice the smoke until I got out of the car.The smoke quickly subsided once the engine was off. No warnings, running perfectly.

That does look like a drip of oil on the catalyst, so I think Catman wins the prize. Very likely to be cam covers.

Thanks so much. How much to fix if it is that would you guess? New cam cover gaskets?

First thing I would do is have a good look around from the top, see if you can see more oil and the path it is taking. If it is a bit dirty give it a clean and then short drive and check again. If you can’t see oil on the heads it might be coming from somewhere else.

If it is the gaskets, and it most likely is, they are about £40 each and around 3 hours of swearing.

Thank you. Think I'll get in touch with the place I bought it from and go from there.
