I was quite amused to hear on my drive home...
The opposition leader was asked when the lockdown should be lifted...
He said it was impossible to predict until all the data is in...infections, R rates, deaths etc....
His glass ball must be cloudy for a change...
For clarity I don’t have political allegiances...

Common misconception.

The covid test was never designed to be used to test the “infectiousness” of an individual.
This is where it’s fecked.

The test provides a simple -ve or +ve for the virus.

someone who is +ve could have had the virus months ago and not even felt Ill.
The “cycling” of the test (see previous posts up to 45 times!!!!) can produce a +ve result meaning lockdown for them and all their contacts and as a result the population even though they are not infectious.

total fuckery and a totally flawed approach to the situation.
The tests don’t even reveal how many times they were cycled....why not?

A cycle +ve test of say 10 shows high levels of virus.
A cycle +ve test of 45 shows minute, non infectious levels.
Currently, both are banded as +ve and panic ensues.

if this current approach continues expect to be locked down for years.....or until they cunningly give the order to cycle the tests far less, making cases and the virus magically disappear as all those with minute levels disappear from results.

I’ve been banging on about “cycle thresholds for weeks and weeks - Seems the WHO have just realised the TOTAL folly of their flawed approach and issued new guidance regarding testing.

WHO guidance Diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2 states that careful interpretation of weak positive results is needed (1). The cycle threshold (Ct) needed to detect virus is inversely proportional to the patient’s viral load. Where test results do not correspond with the clinical presentation, a new specimen should be taken and retested using the same or different NAT technology.

WHO reminds IVD users that disease prevalence alters the predictive value of test results; as disease prevalence decreases, the risk of false positive increases (2). This means that the probability that a person who has a positive result (SARS-CoV-2 detected) is truly infected with SARS-CoV-2 decreases as prevalence decreases, irrespective of the claimed specificity.

Funny how case numbers are peaking isn’t it!

Another case in point the Australian Tennis open.......loads of tennis players tested positive......now this week they’re classed as “shedding” and are allowed out to play.

Expect new infected case numbers to plummet in coming weeks as cycle thresholds are dramatically cut......not that they’ll still tell you what level they are using,

Will this miracle reduction in infections be credited to vaccinations........

Total and utter fuckery.

As has been said before, cycle numbers are affected by the quality of the original sample.

Is the merry go round starting again?

So updating with new WHO guidance which confirms previously predicted outcomes is a “merry go round”?

No. The WHO guidance is what it is. Your decision to post it and then cast it as a government conspiracy that simultaneously casts doubt on the seriousness of the situation and the efficacy of the vaccine is the merry go round.

Oh it's govern-mental for sure..... as are decisions not to follow specified required vaccine dosing procedures.

Just watching the news and hearing that the police broke up a wedding party in North London last night 400 people attending !!
They issued half a dozen £200 fines with the organisers facing the £10k fine.
I would have their mug shots on the front of every news paper under the heading “STUPID”

So about £25 per guest... if they club together to pay the fines...what deterrent!
Totally agree, £10k each, if can’t pay, seize their assets, and if any of them have covid, no treatment, in fact just line them up and Bren gun em all.....
Bad week...

I know folks keep highlighting the deaths in the UK on the news and not saying much at all about other countries, so I was surprised when I just read that over 50,000 have now died in Germany. I wasn’t expecting that.

Yes, it's a sad situation. My colleagues in Germany are unimpressed with the state of affairs in their country. Lockdown there extended to 14th Feb.

Easy to complain about the UK, but at least we're vaccinating people at a good rate.
