Investors like certainty... the shutdown will limit losses and it may be that there is news regarding Boeing accessing government loans. Easy Jet up 25% today on the back of accessing the government loan scheme thereby securing its future from possible administration. But yes, today has been a pretty perverse day for the markets.

Of course in some situations you could extract positives out of many negatives. They just seem to be pulling them out of anywhere and everywhere as creatively as possible it seems.

Went long on the DOW last night and just closed the position with some decent profit. Waiting for open in US to see what next... it's hard right now with these swings... I have a short on the FTSE ready to go at 5600.

Good luck and stay safe.....in both senses of the word ;)

5600 or 5800?
In this market I am setting a lower point to start so that it has already started a downward trend as it's just so volatile and can literally go any way. At least a significant drop would mean it has hopefully started a downward trend.

Agreed, sure is volatile! Your plan make sense to me.

Might get out of my HOC this arvo as well.....getting a bit close to topping out on current range.

I had one set at 5800 but it didn't make it.......5760 would have done!

Did it hit as low as 5600? Mind you it is perking back up again now. There was a nice 100 points there in an hour ;)

On Capital it's always a good 50 or 60 points below the actually market one for some reason, it triggered and I took some profit as it started to move the other way. Watching the futures now and it seems to be signalling a long. It's so volatile it's unreal.

Here's a share tip.
JP Morgan

If the share price drops like a stone buy it as it will 100% be bailed out.

Also keep an eye on Moderna MRNA

U.S. health officials have been fast-tracking work with biotech company Moderna to develop a vaccine to prevent COVID-19. They began their first human trials on a potential vaccine March 16”

Beyond physical here’s my current,
Mainly miners for my Aud, USD balance in physical gold and silver, cash at home, small balance in bank, €and £ bricks n mortar.

Wattie, MRNA has dipped 10% today, against the overall market. Good dip to buy in on?

Anyone have any advice on what system or software to trade with or manage their portfolios with?

Don't laugh but I used Microsoft Money years ago when I played with this 10-15 years ago. Worked fine as I just wanted to track transactions and didn't need trading tools as had them on the broker platform. I used to have a Barclays Stockbroking account and still have it but opened IG Investment ISA's and a spread betting account instead. The IG Index platform is nice and easy and does most of what I need really. I'm going to transfer all my old Barclays stuff to IG.

I have been recording it all on an Excel sheet at the moment and it is fine to record but lacks getting graphs and customisable info without keep creating a custom one each time.

I have looked at StockMarketEye, SharePad/Scope, Stockopedia & MSMoneyPlus.

SharePad seems complex and more than I need but very good. More trading tools platform rather than managing or analysing your portfolio/trades. Shows all live trades which is nice to see.
Stockopedia seem much simpler and good as well. Much easier to use/work with. No trade data it seems.
StockMarketEye is very simple but not sure if does anything very well.
MSMoneyPlus is again simple and effective to record transactions.

Anyone got any thoughts, ideas or advice on what is good trading platform to use or how to record transactions? Would just be good to see day/week/month/year performance at any given time easily I guess.

I use the Hargreaves Lansdown desktop or phone app. Works fine for me. And I’m a massive technophobe

Edit: I used to use Etoro for spread betting and forex. Don’t use them. They are total shysters

Thanks. Never had an account with them so might open one to see what the interface and platform is like.

What is the post trade reporting/analytics like?

The market is sure very strange at the moment and either has a slightly offset timeline......or has lot the plot!

When you see statements like this something isn't right is it?

"In corporate news, Boeing shares were 19.47% higher after the firm extended the shutdown of its Seattle production operations indefinitely."
Mental isnt it.
A company that bought back its own stock for years reaping billions for shareholders execs etc yet -built a plane with known inherent safety issues it hid, killing people -gets bailed out. Boeing upside moves the index it’s so big! Another example of business that should fail, but won’t be allowed to.

This is more evidence Showing how badly broken markets are and how crooked.

Ultimately there is one more card that will be played and that will confirm the direness of the situation and also signal officially the end of free markets as we know It.
Watch for the point at which the Fed officially announces it will buy equities.

There’s a lot of hype around all these drug co’s at the moment, seems just announcing that you are developing a vaccine is enough to send stock leaping, even if the product is a long way off.
I’d tend to watch them and see if any momentum builds- I encashed ABBV and Gilead after a decent run and haven’t got back in.
Only one I’m in is NCYT for the long haul as testing accuracy seems to be key at the moment.

Cheers Phil

I've got IG and might still have a Capital account from years ago unless they closed it. I had a CMC one as well but never really got on with their interface. The IG platform seems pretty nice to use to me. Not found much it doesn't do other than analysing post deal reports but no need for them to offer this really.

Might stick to my Excel or MS Money if nothing else seems better.

Looked at Banktree and and a couple of others but they look a little old/dated and clunky. Bonkers that MS Money was ceased about 15 years ago and many still seem to use it!
