It makes some sense. I'm a Governor of a tiny village primary school (with under 100 pupils). If we have 5 pupils next week, we will probably send them to the nearby town. If we have 50, we will look after them.
I just deleted my initial reply. I am Hopeful the school will accommodate as a lot of the parents are keyworkers.

Are people going to ignore the sell by dates, and go old school, if know what to do? Maybe we should start a thread, if the egg floats don't eat it!

Supermarkets do have a supply chain that can cope with huge uplifts, they do it every year for Easter, Xmas etc. What they can’t cope with is Tracey reading on Facebook that food is running out and her rushing off and hoarding... and consistently now playing catch up. that’ll be one of the reason 24 hour stores have changed their opening hours.
Well all I would say then is it's not operating fast enough. Having spent 31 years working as a Proc and Supply Chain Director in the military aviation world, I know that response rates should be agile and resourced up enough to always match demand , whatever that is especially in a 'wartime_/military conflict ' situation. As Borris says we are on a war footing which demands extraordinary working and responsiveness. So we need more trucks and daily deliveries to every supermarket in the country until this demand falls away.

UKPLC can do this. An extraordinary situation requires an extraordinary response so we just need to accelerate these efforts as a matter of urgency.
As Appollo13 disaster taught us all, nothing is impossible in the face of adversity.....

Following governments advice my department has got 8 in isolation out of a staff of about 200 along with another 5 that are working from home due to underlying health conditions making them more vulnerable.

You think the delivery arms of supermarkets is any different? How can they ramp up with less staff.
There are plenty of HGV drivers around working in non critical areas which could be redeployed plus we have HGV drivers in the army and plenty of them. So nothing is impossible if there is a will to make it work despite the challenges that we are facing.

If I get sent home I think I’ll see if I can do some moonlighting delivering....( voluntarily)
If Tesco don’t have enough vans I’m sure I can get about 20 delivery boxes in the golf..

Still wouldn’t be able to cope with the ridiculous amount of **** people bought from the supermarkets over the last few days.

There was naff all in Sainsbury’s yesterday. I popped in for some fresh milk which there was plenty of but the only fresh veggies were onions and sweet potatoes. There were people in front of me in the queue with trolleys full of them. I’m not joking there was one woman who had got about 50 sweet potatoes. WTF is she going to do with those.

I think the shops will be pretty much back to normal by next week

It’s really annoying that people are being so selfish in time’s like this. And most of them are stupid to boot

I'm the same, when at home I'm not working, so three weeks basically free.

I think it could be made to work but as you say with any luck in a week or two's time this madness will have faded away. If anything, people will be running out of money! My old old employer is being asked to build respirators now as part of an industry consortia. They normally build complex fighter aircraft but are being asked to turn their knowledge and skills to building respirators. A bit different to aircraft but knowing them as well as I do, they will make this happen and in super quick time with any luck. Fingers crossed!

I just got a tip off that the army and police will be out from tomorrow night and total lockdown for 2 weeks. Not sure if it’s true but interesting
