Got a phone call this afternoon, saying they had received the email and picture of the damage, along with the expected “can’t understand how that happened” we are so careful because our reputation is important to us. Anyway, they said they would make good any damage, at a later date. I just said thanks a lot, told them I was totally disappointed with their so called care while my car was in their hands. And to be honest I don’t want anything more to do with them. I have just put it down to experience, bad experience!. Cheers.It might be worth getting a second opinion by getting a knowledgeable mechanic to look at the mentioned faults especially after their reluctance to disclose the scrape they caused on the bumper.

Might be worth going to a different MOT centre, I use one that only does MOTs and not any repairs so you get a fair test, since it does not benefit them to fail.
Worth noting however that if the MOT station fail the car as dangerous under the new MOT rules, it cannot be driven on the road from that moment, which means breaking the law / risking a fine, or getting it towed somewhere to repair it. (see UK MOT thread)

Hi,In the age of more stringent MOT test it is surprising how often advisories skip a test, i.e. showing on one, not on the next then reappear - now in some cases there could be a genuine reason but on ones I have been looking at in detail the MOT without the advisories was nearly always done before a sale.

Very true Nibby, but unfortunately if you put your breaks on At 70 mph, and the break pipes fail when you should have been made aware of the potential failure 12 months ago, (that is what advisories are for) then that borders on being criminal. As you say lenient MOT stations, and dealers who possibly are aware of such leniency in order to sell a car need to be accountable. That’s what MOT tests are supposed to be for, I want an expert to tell me my car is unsafe to drive, and if necessary stop me from driving it, as most will do. Those that do not, for what ever reason are not acceptable.Glad your getting it sorted Saigon.
With MOT's there are different things to consider, an overzealous tester, a garage after a bit of business or the other end where a car sales firm uses a lenient MOT station.

Too right, bought my car in March which had been MOT'd in December with no advisories so will be interesting how it gets on next time. To be fair it runs fine and my mate said the brake disc and pads look new so hopefully it's ok. I got a warranty with it that lasted 3 months which is nearly up, the max they would help if I had to claim is £3000 and they wanted nearly £800 to renew it when they phoned the other day. Thanks but no thanks. Hi, yes checked and already fitted today. Would have responded earlier but only got back last night from holiday. The only problem today has been that the brake pads which I supplied to the garage to fit today were totally incompatible. If you look through my posts you will see various communications with others on the site about alternative pads and being the correct ones, unfortunately they are not. Lesson learnt, but the good news is that Eurospares have the correct ones in stock for a limited time for £78, part number 248418 for a set of four. Compared with Maserati OEM at £80 each also available from Eurospares. So if anyone thinks they might need some pads now is the time, and the correct ones for a 4200.Never a problem Although I do hope you checked the suitability?
