I have a notion that to make a case to keep your licence on 'exceptional hardship' grounds, you need to show the harm to other people, not yourself. Being the breadwinner might do it, but only if you can very clearly show the effects on other people.My brother in law has just been to Court with solicitor and barrister and was given 6 months ban even though he is sole bread winner and needs to drive to keep his job.

Many years ago, a friend of mine who got banned persuaded his company to relocate him to Ireland, where the UK ban, apparently, didn't count. He worked (and drove) there for a couple of years and then came back to the UK. Probably not an solution these days as the ban probably applies throughout the EU.
