Dear All:

I have a work colleague who could really do with some advice. He loves his cars, but unfortunately has managed to reach 12 points in the last 4 years.

Does anyone have experience of this, have any advice or recommend anyone to help..

Thanks a lot.

I heard about him! he got david beckham off apparently!

I had a more minor offence a few years back - paid my money.... got given a train barrister and she was shite. For himself I think you will be talking 5 figures at least

My brother in law has just been to Court with solicitor and barrister and was given 6 months ban even though he is sole bread winner and needs to drive to keep his job. He has appealed and is back to court in August.
Gone are the days where you might have got a two or three week ban.

In West Oz when you accumulate 12 points you lose license for 3 months, exceptions (i.e. for work) are hard to come by. BUT they offer you a double or nothing. You can keep driving but if you get 2 or more points in the next 12 months you will be walking (or Ubering) for 6 months rather than 3. Oh, and all public holidays are double demerit points just for fun.... so going through a red traffic light = 8 points!

IIRC, it depends how many points your mate got in the first year; they are on your licence for 4 years but only valid for 3.

Remember points are valid from the date of the offence uless for disqualification or DD offences, so some of his 4 year points may now be void.

I have a notion that to make a case to keep your licence on 'exceptional hardship' grounds, you need to show the harm to other people, not yourself. Being the breadwinner might do it, but only if you can very clearly show the effects on other people.

Many years ago, a friend of mine who got banned persuaded his company to relocate him to Ireland, where the UK ban, apparently, didn't count. He worked (and drove) there for a couple of years and then came back to the UK. Probably not an solution these days as the ban probably applies throughout the EU.

It doesn't. I got banned in france (b4stards) for 4 weeks. My licence turned up at my home address in the UK 4 days after I got banned.

There's a pedal on the right, it goes all the way to the floor... Ask Hoyin!

:D

That pedal seems to work fine - just can't get out of first gear though

Actually, paid my dues many years ago. My Alfa Sud got the better of me one bright sunny day - seems they don't always corner like they're on railway lines. Oooops!

Don't do it in a 30-40-50 or a motorway and you're very unlikely to get caught speeding.

Admittedly that doesn't leave much these days , though every single track road off a 50 has a national limit sign but you do risk running into the back of a tractor with a big spike on it

Would've preferred a speeding ticket - that would've meant I stopped before the corner :D Catman will know it - Hollycross Rd at the end of the conker straight. Steering just lightens a touch - as it turned out a touch too much. Cue the AC/DC.
