Diagun Diagnostic Tool

I came across this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ona2WiIwuFk on Youtube for the Diagun X431 and the clip shows the device used to read and then clear fault codes on a 3200GT. Anyone heard of these, or has one or can offer any insight as to their merits given the $1500 price tag?

Has there been any further progress on a scantool for the 3200's? I did follow a thread on MF where a member was developing a basic code reader. As an extension to this is there a list of fault codes and the fault to which it refers available anywhere?

Regards,

Neil

Neil, you're talking about an OBD reader? Conaero will pass by and tell you which one he has used for the GS......or do a search for OBD........

I was under the impression that OBD2 readers would not work on a 3200 becuase it uses a proprietary code that only the SD3 will understand but in the Youtube clip (I've added the link now) he uses the "generic" obd2 setting to read and clear the fault codes. Would be useful depending on how many codes it would read and if those codes are listed somewhere with the component to which it refers.

Neil, will wait for another 3200 owner to pass by.......I read about that other guy doing what you mentioned, but can't remember if it came to fruition.....

The 3200GT Auto from 2000 i think has a generic ODBII port on it

My 2001 model has one and i can read error codes and all the standard engine diagnostics with a standard reader software. I cant diagose the Maserati special codes

Perhaps this is what you saw on u-tube? the real key is whether you can correctly diagnose the Maserati special codes. I have not found an ODBII reader software with these codes. If i have the code definitions i could probably write some software to do this with a standard ODBII connector but the definitions are not public information.

Sorry didn't look at your u-tube link.

All he is doing here is resetting a fault. If the car has an ODBII port fitted (as this one clearly does) then one of the little readers that cost £20 on e-bay will reset the fault codes. I have one permanently in the car just in case! Very handy!

Many thanks Davy, that's the info I was after. In your experience, can most of the codes your car throws up be reset with the OBD2 reader? in other words are the majority of the fault codes standard or proprietary?

Whether the code is a MAserati special or a standard code makes no difference the reset command clears any fault regardless of source.

The problem with the Maserati codes is if it happens repeatedly you have a fault that is causing problems, and while you can reset it you don't really know exactly what is causing it, so its harder to diagnose, and fix.

There are generic groupings for special codes which can narrow it down a bit, but the proper Maserati SD-2 or SD-3 will tell you exactly what the error code is and so make it easier to get the problem fixed. There is a thread here some where with the generic ODBII definitions if you cant find it let me know i can post it again.

There seems to be a parallel thread with the Formula Dynamics OBD2 reader which has the Ferrari/Maserati codes programmed. I think this would be a guaranteed "group buy" item yes?

Why not Neil....see how it pans out......esp if it can diagnose those Maser specific codes and reset successfully.....now if its not just a hissy fit that has lit up a light.......then a fix is indeed needed!!

The FD reader has not cracked all the code, but at least some. Apparently Jeff has one left (he was meant to be making more over the Christmas break) and I spoke to Noor who was hoping to get hold of it so we could take a look at its effectiveness.

If it looks good, and Jeff is committed to making another batch, then yes it would certainly be a viable group buy, though the discount may be limited by whatever FD is prepared to discount to PI.

I'll drop Noor a PM and see if he has any further news.

It is a pity we can't get the Maserati definitions, as this would allow us to use off the shelf ODBII readers.

Maybe i should get a written off MAS and try to create every possible fault and log the outputs so we can make up a table? i could make a partial list by pulling all the sensor connectors of my car in turn i suppose? I am worried about breaking some thing however!!!
should we catalogue every ones knowledge on error codes some how? so over time we get a nearly complete picture?

I can get a complete list of codes , a quick PM to Nigello will clarify , if thats whats needed , but a reset facility or the ability to change settings would be awesome

Just read a PM from Noor on this. The Formula Dynamics ODBII Mark 2 production is now being planned and it looks like it's a large step forward from their last reader.

Timing is a bit vague at the moment as there is some R&D and testing to be completed, but hopefully available this Spring.

No mention of cost as yet, but watch this space. I've asked Noor to keep us updated.

Just to give some help, i own the X431 professional , i own a repair Garage here in the UK and i Own a year 2000 3200, PRE OBD spec. the X431 is badged as LAUNCH over here in UK. for earlier 3200's with the 3 pin FIAT connectors, you can go in under FIAT on the scan tool and access the systems that way, the menus pull up Magnetti Marrelli so you can enter through that. the codes usually come up with a slight italian overtone with the text but its pretty understandable.
