Good Morning everyone,
Speaking of eyes, yes you only get one pair. I wore contacts up till I was 40, then decided that pulling them in and out every night was rubbish so I just use specs. I went to the opticians recently and they've spotted enlarged nerve endings on the retinal scan, which is a possible early sign of glaucoma. I've had the pressure test and peripheral eye test but nothing is wrong with my vision. As a caution the Specsavers optician has referred me to my GP who has referred me to the Specialist Eye hospital. I go on Saturday for another peripheral eye test and the main appointment next Friday (2nd)...so hopefully it's nothing.

Best catch it soonest, Martin. I'm sure it'll be fine.

I recall a couple of years back I managed (god knows how) to drill a hole in the surface of my cornea. The irritation wasn't getting any better, and in fact it got worse when I took my lenses out (rather to my surprise, I just assumed I'd just damaged the lens or similar.

Our marvellous optician fitted me in as an emergency, and found the 'hole' Very strict instructions and if I had any suspicion of any of the list of symptoms she gave me I was to go to A+E immediately. Not any A+E mind. Moorfields A+E.

Mrs Catman says she never saw me looking quite so unwell. Fair put the wind up, it did.

My elderly Father was diagnosed with glaucoma, having been through all the same tests at Moorfields, and has been taking an eye drop for a number of years. In his case, pressure related, the condition has been manageable and there certainly hasn't been any deterioration. He also has to renew his driving license every three years due to his age, involving more tests, etc, and he has sailed through every time.

The only irritation he suffers, when at Moorfields, is having to fight his way past the hoards of ungrateful health tourists - but that's another problem entirely.

they did say that any type of laser surgery could result in wearing reading glasses in your mid 40s.....no surgery prevents that apparently but should still have "driving standard" eyesight for life

Alex was 33 when she was told she needed glasses.

I'll tell her you think she's in her 40's!!!! (you'll be a dead man next time she sees you!).

I managed 52 before needing glasses but the 'need' was from perfect to nothing close up in about 3 weeks! I'm now using 1.0's that have arms going right round the back and join at the front with a magnet, the great thing is when I need them they are round my neck not slipping off the top of my head all the time...

did another big net at Islington today but will have to go back as I still have two more jobs to complete there. Got a job to do in Leybourne in the morning then back to Islington I suppose.

I have been to Optimax Mark, they are big around the country with a few branches....not cheap but they offer 0% instalments so it works for me.....

They told me i qualify for the top of the range surgery which is called Lasik and its virtually painless.....they did say that any type of laser surgery could result in wearing reading glasses in your mid 40s.....no surgery prevents that apparently but should still have "driving standard" eyesight for life

Meant to reply to this earlier. Go to an opticians and get them to show you what driving standard actually is. Hint: It's ******
