Engine oil level increasing

After doing all the above I've replaced the oil too and requested an oil analysis as suggested at the beginning of this thread. The sample was collected after driving 200km (not high speed, not above 4000 RPM). Selenia Racing was never checked by the company so far, but what they found quite strange:
- no fuel found, at least
- viscosity on 40C: 115 instead of 187.5
- viscosity on 100C: 17.9 instead of 23
- major amount of Silicon (35 ppm), this could be my direct air filter or also anti-foaming additive in the oil

Since I didn't drive hard the thinning cannot be because of shearing and fuel also wasn't found maybe it's an issue with the quality of the oil? I might send off some unused oil from the can to check that too.

As I remember, the oil manufacturer in the Philipines I believe, downgraded Selenia a few years back, reducing the specs maybe due to cost, you need a good say 10-60 synthetic oil from a good manufacturer..!!

That would explain, the mighty Selenia Racing...

Even with the discrepancy in viscosity why is the level increasing?

Oh, this also seems to be resolved, should have been visible by now *knock wood*

I still use it, this is quite worrying. I'll need to investigate.

If Selenia has been downgraded but still recommended by Maserati and used by specialists is it still up to the job, is there a better alternative?

I'm not sure Maserati has any recommendation nowadays for these cars. A few months ago I've asked for a replacement of the Tutela ZC Gemax 6 gearbox oil and they couldn't recommend anything but directed to Candini (still no answer from there).

Since Fiat was the owner during the Ghibli II era, and they also owned Selenia (Fiat Lubricants) back then probably it was a no brainer to recommend those oils. I think earlier Biturbos had Agip oils as the recommendation. Seems like shortly after Petronas bought Selenia (http://www.selenia.com/en/milestones.asp) the specs got downgraded.

I'll also investigate alternatives.

It would appear from the selenia web site that they have discontinued the 10/60 selenia racing, McGraths are show shell 10/60 on the 3200 service schedule.

That's not good news. I may have to stock up a bit. Oils will almost certainly have moved on since 2000 when my 3200 was born though.

Motul m300v is top notch, if selenia is now dead, I may have to switch to that.
Will also be interested to see what Emblem say.

I mentioned it to Emblem a couple of months ago who said they'd ask the Selenia rep next time he was in. Does seem like changes are afoot.

Depends what you are doing with the car I think

If you drive at 10 10ths all the time and live in Dubai- it might be a problem.

But as long as the core viscosity can be maintained, and regular changes made, I think we'll be alright...

Did you ever get a response from Emblem?
I need to do an oil change before the track season starts and I'm wondering what Emblem now recommend.

Mobil One do 1 10W 60 Fully Synthetic - their Oils are mostly pereceived to be top quality.

Failing that there are a lot of options, Castrol Edge is also well regarded for Turbo cars. Used to use it in my Audi quattro that ran 28PSI of boost.

I have some Selenia and some Mobil 1 on the shelf, I've been using Selenia for top ups, but would rather trust the Mobil one if I had to.
