Missing the point. No one said the GS wasn't the quicker car as it is just that the M3 was better around the bends.

I think it all goes to prove everyone is different. There is no right or wrong here just subjective opinion.

One thing for sure is the 4200/GS are not your finest at any individual job. Nothing on these cars is very top of the tree. Except one thing....the feeling, passion, emotion and soul the whole package offers. They are like your archetypal flawed genius.

I am not talking the cars down, why would I? Just being honest. I think they are fantastic value at upto maybe 30-35k. As soon as you go past this point my heart and mind is thinking Aston.

I have been driving my E55K a fair bit over the last few weeks. I forgot how good they are....what a machine as an all round device!

My E60 M5 was faster, braked better and handled better. Have a got an E60 M5 at the moment or a Maserati.......er Maserati. Says it all. Is the best at what it does? No. Have I still got one? Yes!

The GS fundamentally is a GT and not a sports car. In that regard it does what it does very well subject to a ride that is harder/harsher than it should be.

Have I taken a wrong turning and arrived on PistonHeads..?

Seems that way! All you need is a differing opinion and all **** breaks loose. When someone starts calling people out too it gets a little childish and hostile.

We all pretty much know each other personally here and let's face it we wind each other up with banter and can take lots. The way I see it is don't speak to someone online like you wouldn't speak to someone say in the pub or in the street as it's just not cricket.

Let's play nicely and if we have a differing opinion welcome it and try to explain why we think it is right.

By the way i'm wearing this T-shirt today :D

Let’s have some balance, please. The GS is not the very best handling car ever made, but it’s also not some pig that handles like ****. We all know that it’s sensitive to setup – when I bought my car it turned out that the ride height was higher on one side and it was wearing old tyres. Ride height, geometry and new tyres taken care of, it was a very satisfying car to hustle down a nice road. Yes, I’m trading it in for a Lotus Evora, which will have better handling (than pretty much any other car out there), but it doesn’t mean the GS is ****.

It is a great modern classic/weekend car. It has an old school feel, and if you use it just a few times a year for special drives, it doesn’t matter that the gearbox is jerky in town or that the ICE is outdated. It looks and sounds AMAZING, it’s fast and it handles well for a 1680kg four seater.

I'm not sure what your trying to prove. Most people on here are here because they love the brand & theif cars. They are knowledgeable & honest about these cars.

In my job, work & life I am eternally independent & impartial. I have to be to allow me to make the decisions I make. I can see I come from a neutral position so see things the same way as most of here.

I can see that you are a big supporter of the brand & their cars. That is understood & admirable. Maybe if you would like to pop those rose tinted specs off for a few seconds you can see what others are seeing & saying.

Just saying

Would be interesting to see the stats of a P1 vs a GS to see which one handles better

Maserati owners in general never look or compare there cars with Other makes especially BMW .

The majority of Maserati owners have them because they are such special cars to drive , and when your driving them it's something Magical and the interior are much superior to any other car .

I have no Idea why your all comparing them to other cars this is supposed to be a Maserati enthusiast forum not a BMW forum .

I wasn't the one that said the GS was a **** handling car. As others agree, a good one set up properly is far from it.

I didn't state as a fact that the M3 is faster than a GS. As the stats show, in a straight line or round a track, it isn't.

I get upset when certain people on here continually state opinions like they are facts. Opinions are opinions, facts are facts. And when the facts don't bear out the opinions, people should be able to accept that.

Yes, I love this brand, and yes I am a big supporter of it. I just get fed up with people constantly slagging off the brand or the cars on here. Most people on here have a Maserati. They don't all have the same one. So why would you deliberately and knowingly slag off a Maserati that somebody else on here almost certainly owns and loves.

I'm a great believer in the saying “If you don't have something good (read positive or at least constructive) to say, don't say itâ€. The world would be a much happier place if people adopted that philosophy. And in saying that I'm not saying that a negative opinion should not be expressed. But there is a way of doing so that is reasonable and constructive and adds to the debate. Rather than “it's shitâ€.

I don't really compare stats & all that guff too much for any cars I buy for the road. What is the point? I am not a racing driver and don't drive on tracks as a job or often. Comparisons like this are irrelevant in the real world on the road. On the track these cars are OK but certainly this is not where they are at their best.

For me handling needs some modern interpretation. Just because a car is faster round a corner doesn't mean it is better to me. Was it involving? Did I have fun or enjoy the car or the way it went round the corner? Was it dangerous or overly hard work to not achieve much? In essence how rewarding was it?

All of these questions and answers are more real world useful things IMHO. My little GTi-6 is a cracking car, amazing value & great fun. I suspect it may be quicker round tights/sharp bends or a small tight bendy circuit than a GS. Does it make it better? Not necessarily. Depends what you want. We all want different things. What is right for one is not for another.

One question that does remain though RWC. Why would you sell the GS if you are clearly so attached to it & rate it so highly? If it is down to circumstances.....fair enough.....but it must be pretty heart wrenching to part with for you.

Chill guys - They're 2 different cars for 2 different moods.

I had a GT then went GS then went GTS and was planning on going GS again but with a new house and baby on the way I had to leave both for a bit and focus on the more important things in life.

They're both very similar in that they're derived from the same place and share the same soul - but they're so different in a classic/ modern way- and that's why I think mood plays a big part.

The thing with this GS is that it's practically new and one of the very few cars you will find in that condition so it makes it a bit harder to dismiss, however, realistically speaking, head over heart, the added value is in the miles/ condition. If you use it as normal it will eventually end up being similar to all the other GS for sale give or take. So you have to ask your self, do you want to spend 45,000 for a show piece/ talking point on here - or is it because you truly want a GS and are prepared to pay that much for it.

You're thread asks "You've got £45K in your pocket what would you do"

I would get the black GTS with red interior for £33K and wait till one of the forum members are ready to sell their GS and buy it private for £20-25K, however much they would be worth a year from now - can't seem them being worth anymore.

Then you will have both cars to suit both moods.
