Thanks folks.

I guess the exam question is do I jump now and do the swap, or be pushed in 5-6 months time when baby arrives....? Hard to say which would have the net financial benefit. I suppose the most economic option would be to sell the Aston now then buy the GTS in 6 months time; but of course that'd be a ludicrous idea - it'd be like taking away a chap's favourite sh*g for six months! (By sh*g of course I refer to what one puts in one's pipe!)

All cars depreciate so selling now and waiting six months will always save money. I would advise getting your new car now before baby takes over everything - I bought my 3200 when my eldest was half cooked which worked well.

There is a logic to that. You won't be thanked for spending hours pouring over Autotrader and Pistonheads when your other half is waking every couple of hours to feed the new arrival and will be running on a very short fuse as a result.

Nearly there...

Right - Nearly put a deal together now to finally get me into a MC Shift - Thought before I pull the trigger would run past you all for quick thoughts...

58 plate 17/10/08 - Black with Black/Alcantra Interior, 18k miles, 2 owners (ex Gray Paul dealer supplied car), skyhook, comfort pack, bose, alu pedals, yellow callipers, 20" dark neptue wheels, NavTrak ADV, 12mths MOT, 3 mths warranty,Good tyre wear (f-8mm r-5mm), Mint example last serviced around 17k miles in Nov-11 (second service).....£48,500.

My questions:

1> Sound OK - Should I get an extended warranty?
2> I will probably put around 8k miles PA onto car - Is the MC Shift truly usable as an everyday car?
3> When should the clutch replacement be factored and at what cost?
4> Am I right to set aside around £1200 servicing costs PA?
5> How quickly do they eat tyres - My experience of P-Zeros are they wear v.quickly?

I want to be 100% sure - Nearly got an Audi R8 instead the other week mainly due to such cheap running costs...My head is telling me to stick with an R8 but heart is saying go with the MC Shift!!!

Its decision time.....Am I doing the right thing.....Arrrrrrrrhhhhhh!!!!

Darren,
A warm welcome to the forum, no will not go short on advice, but for buying the final decision has to be yours.
Clutch usually start to need looking at somewhere around 25K miles, depends how you drive them.
Extended warranties if not Maserati are expensive and some are just not worth the money.
There are loads of Audi's out there, not that many Maserati's, you will always get more glances in a Maser.
Best of Luck

I'd recommend obtaining details of the 2nd service if possible as the schedule is usually 12,500 miles or two years, and there are a number of additional items that are incorporated into the year 4 service. If those items were not done in Nov 11 they would normally be due about now. My main dealer service invoices also detailed the clutch wear (albeit computed) as well so that may be on the Nov 11 invoice. I had my 4 year service earlier this year (to coincide with a12,500 mile service) and my clutch wear was 52% (with 24,500 miles on the clock) , so as Robert said, usage is dependent on how it has been driven. I would strongly recommend getting the disks and pads checked prior to buying as you are looking at a bill from a main dealer well north of £2k if they require replacement - I had to replace mine in the summer. From recollection the first 12.5k service was c £1,200 (at two years) with the 4th year service just less than double that. i recommend using supercarhub to search for prices.

As an aside I too was debating between an R8 and a GTS three years ago and do not regret my choice.

Great news, thelovecrumb - looks fantastic. I especially like the contrast of the yellow stitching and black interior.

Enjoy!
