4.7 MC all the way, noise is so much better. Ive just been in Gray Paul today (MOT time) and looked at the new sport and im not sure if its worth a swap. But they offered over 50 for mine..... if i PX'd it for a California that is.

Ah the delights of over allowance on the px to suck the client in!

No problems with MOT?

Listen, gonna pull no punches......fed up ***** footing around!
If you're going to buy a Granturismo and you want the full experience you've gotta go MC shift.

It is special. Yup it ain't for old farts ( go buy a jag or a merc or an Audi or a Porsche or an iffy Aston if you wanna buy a car to satisfy other people) but if you've even the merest hint of petrol head, you''ll be completely, totally satisfied.

Yeah been down that route but means taking approx £5k hit to p/x - Not something I'm willing to accept when buying a £50k car - Willing to chance my arm on a private sale and play the waiting game.....Sure the GTS will also depreciate quicker so could work in my favour, already seeing the prices soften slightly.

I keep saying it time and time again, that gearbox choice is personal and you can't tell someone what is right for them. All you do is **** off people who have a different preference to yourself by being so forceful.

This website prides itself on giving advice but you cannot tell someone what is right for them as you have no idea. Your choice is clear (to a point as you no longer have your car) and so is mine. I would strongly advise the OP to buy neither gearbox car until he has driven at least one, but preferably both of them.

Nothing controversial with what I said. The MC box on the car carries a premium over the standard auto box. It's recognised as the more sporty gearbox. Fact.
It may not be the smoothest nor the least hassle but I believe that if you buy the GTS and want the full sports experience then it's the best. It is,as you say, for others to decided for themselves.

Not being forceful, just expressing my view and I respect that others may disagree.

Forums are fun and I think it's cool that we both feel passionately about the derivatives we own. No offence was intended and none should certainly be taken.

None taken mate. I am just a bit touchy on gearbox choice. Had a manual 3200, a manual 4200 and now an auto GTS and they have all worked for me which is why I a prickle when the CC/MC Shift is pushed as the only 'real' option.

Another GTS hunter here

Hi all,
I'm also on the hunt for the perfect GTS, albeit a bit more half-heartedly than the OP.

I've still got a few months until the new bundle of joy arrives but that does mean the V8 Vantage Roadster will have to go. It'll be much like the Aston in that it'll be a weekender mostly and only expect to do 4-5000 miles a year in it.

How practical actually are the back seats & what's the boot size like?

Welcome Dickie,

Back seats can fit two 6' adults. The boot is perfectly adequate for all the necessary baby clobber.

Ohhhh, kids today, dunno how lucky they are!!! I was bought up in Morris minors, Anglias and Austin Maxis!

My first pram for my kids cost more than my first car!!!!

Enjoy the car hunt, he or she won't be disappointed.....

Thanks for the friendly welcome folks.

Always nice to get constructive feedback straight away on a forum - sadly not always the case with some marques.

Very subjective question but Mini Dickie is due in April-ish so are GTS prices likely to have come down much more by then? Just before the summer is the best time to sell my V8VR but I guess also when GTS prices strengthen - what with prestige/sports prices being somewhat seasonal.

Alternative is struggle to sell the Aston now, maybe not getting the best price for it, and wait until early next year for the GTS. Fortunately I don't mind a higher miler as I'll be using it fairly infrequently.

Welcome to the forum Dickie. I guess it's logical to say GTS prices will soften a bit between now and April, but whether you'll get any net gain is debatable, unless you think your Vantage will hold its value? I haven't noticed any seasonality in GTS prices as yet. Too many coming onto the market, so they seem to sell pretty consistently based on the usual definers. All the best in your search.

Not noticed too much seasonal variation in pricing of the GT-S, but clearly if buying the same car now or in 6 months time, it will clearly depreciate in value over that time. Not familiar with the V8V pricing so can't comment but suspect there will not be much in it between selling now when prices are slightly soft as opposed to in 6 months time with depreciation but prices slightly stronger.

What I do know is that the GT-S is one of the most practical cars in this class. You can genuinely fit 4 proper adults in without having to remove any limbs and the boot is big enough to cope with enough luggage for 4 people. I have taken the family down to the South of France and to Italy in it for 2 weeks and there is enough room in the boot for all our luggage (just, and my wife does not pack light!!) and the kids have plenty of space in the back. It is also rather adept at munching the miles, as the name would suggest and even cruising at about 90 - 100mph on the French autoroutes returns about 20mpg. Good luck in your search, you won't regret it.
