It is worrying, certainly. As much as I like the idea of buying a new Maser and being in a position to even do so, I don't think I'd go for the current Ghibli or QP. Given the chance I'd be more inclined to spend my hard earned on the best QPV I could find and maintain and keep it for as long as possible.

Good choice.......QPV feels special and it special....The new cars have a more ever day feel about them and have lost a bit of what makes the GS, GT, QPV a special occasion. I think the Ghibli interior is lovely and a very good looking car and it would suit the daily drive very well as a few on here have found but it would not make the hairs stand up on your neck when you take it for a Sunday drive like say a GS.

When I changed my daily last year I was originally looking at buying a QPV. I looked at a few and drove a couple - they're stunning looking cars, but to me they felt really dated and I like all of the modern stuff/tech for my everyday car as it should be an easy driving experience. I surprised myself by going back to look at a Ghibli as I really wasn't sure about them when they were launched. Having spent a lot of time in them whilst deciding I realised it was quite an easy choice to make. They definitely have the Maserati DNA in my opinion, you just need to spend a little more time than you expect to realise it. A test drive or two just doesn't provide the experience. I'm doing less miles than I used to so maybe would not have bought a diesel had I known, but the performance is more than adequate to say the least. It's fairly quick, handles exceptionally well for such a big saloon, extremely comfortable, has loads of great tech and options fitted and the gearbox is sublime - 8-speed auto that I change manually with the stick. As Andy says, the hairs don't stand up on the back of my neck when I drive it, but I don't own it for that reason as I have a GS for more 'spirited' driving. I wonder if a Ghibli S would be a different experience.

I found that it took the trip to Italy, in particular hurtling along the mountain roads, to fully get to grips with the Ghibli. The test drive gave an impression but it's a car that needs you to drive it a while before you can appreciate it. For me anyway.

I think this is why it doesn't review well. It doesn't drive like the German cars it gets compared against. Its different and the reviewers generally don't have much time to form their impressions and get to press. Lazy journalism or the demands of the internet age? Take your choice.

I don't know if the Ghibli or latest QP are any good or not, however I have zero desire to own one and this has to be first generation of Maserati I've been able to say that about
