Morning all from a dreary Buxton, such a convoluted drive up yesterday (34 years of this journey I have never had to divert so much) the traffic was truly awful. Anyway my brother is well underway restoring the FS1-E and today it looks like my job is to build the engine! Haven't built a Fizzy engine since I was about 22 so quite looking forward to it. Also I have to put some feet on the centre stand but that may be a job to do at home with the TIG.

Have fun all...

Well we have stopped for lunch; sit rep, the donor engine is coming apart quite easily and is in remarkable condition (imported from Germany) but is a restricted machine, sprocket is 12 teeth (mine is 15!), has a reed valve as opposed to disk valve which is not a problem to convert to as far as we can tell at the moment. However the intake pipe was restricted to 12mm and the un restricted is 17mm it is a flanged insert that was ring welded on the inboard end so I've just removed it on the lathe, feeling 16 again!!!

Gas flowing it to get that all important 72mph!!!

Well that was an eventful morning, have been desperately trying to get Maserati to see the light and sell me a used Ghibli S on a competitive pcp deal, they failed by a massive margin, however I now have this landing on Tuesday as my new daily.

Update at close of play; donor engine is apart and we can re-use the matching numbers crank case which is worth around £500 on resale! Can also convert to reed valve and cycle pedal final drive shaft meaning it can retain authentic 1973 pedals! The magneto took forever to give up and pop off and only after several heat soak cycles!

Feels great to be playing inside an engine again, need to do this more often :) curiously the main bearings on the donor engine are rumbly?

Congrats Mark & welcome Joseph. Best wishes to Alex & hope she recovers quickly. I still remember those early days not quite as of they were yesterday but still very vivid memories.

It is a real roller coaster of a ride for sure. Not sure it gets easier....just different. Enjoy your sleep now & store it like a camel as when they come home you might get a wee shock

I'm sure we believed they could do the mythical 72 mph Phil, the reality was probably 55 with a tailwind. But then we probably weighed in about 55kg ourselves back then, I's squash a Fizzy these days but it is fun putting one together again and especially as it is to sell (have you seen the price they command?).
