Morning Andy, C et al.

Bad start to the day - I forgot to put water in the coffee machine so no fresh ground coffee to wake up to.

Have a great week all!

Morning,

A bit different to the mornings last week. I'd got used to the sun streaming in through the windows.

Oh well. Next trip booked in Feb.

Have a good day all

Good morning everyone.
Just been catching up on your weekend activities. I hope you all had a good one! Dem, happy birthday to your little one today!
It's a soggy one here in Oxfordshire today. HapPea Monday!

Off through the rain to Heathrow T3 now, and then to Miami this afternoon for a few days, back on Thursday morning.
I hope you had a good flight there, and survived the particularly obnoxious border staff they have!
Even if you don't get time for much fun stuff, when you wake early with jetlag, you can go swimming in the ocean to watch the sunrise. Oh, and be careful when ordering a cocktail... My Long Island iced tea was effectively half a bottle of rum.

Morning all. My start to the working week has been mixed already.

On the plus side a bit of info received from a client which should be very good for business.

On the minus side a Health and Safety jobsworth putting the brakes on tens of thousands of pounds worth of work.
Why is it that RAMS and insurance levels which are good enough for councils, schools, the NHS, the MoD, multi billion pound hotel chains are deemed not good enough for a mid sized hotel?

Key word. There's your answer!

I feel for you - shame there are so many people around who look for reasons why something can't happen, rather than how to make it happen.

It's soooooo frustrating as we've already done a load of work at the hotel before they changed their H&S procedures.
Two of my contractors have said that they can't meet their new regulations and have respectfully passed on the work!

And trust me, these guys will do any job large or small for a few quid. They have said it's just not worth the aggravation or the cost. They can spend their time and money on other (normally) less profitable jobs, which are easier to carry out.
One company has advised me that their insurance premium increase will cost £1000. And to meet the H&S regs it will cost them another £3000.
Their profit on the job was £5000. It's not worth their time for £1,000 profit. They'll probably lose money after they've paid their contractors.

And the worst thing is, the hotel although mid-sized is very famous so I think they are playing on it.

I see this all the time in retail, because they are famous they think you want to work for them at all costs, they don't seem to understand to some of us they are just another business. The big boys may be happy to pay to have them as a customer but to the rest of us there are other customers who are easier to work with.
