I'm still alive and me and my twin brother ragged the Old man's 911 3.0 Turbo 4 speed box around Switzerland :)
In 1993 I bought an 89 3.3 turbo as a post divorce present to myself , that was fun , alas I sold it after a year to restart another business , biggest mistake of my life they are worth fortunes now

I actually love driving mine in the wet. A big flat torque curve and modest grip make it quite controllable. Braking does require caution though!
also dropping into a lower gear approaching a corner would lock up the rear wheels if you were not careful. Drove this mental thing in the wet and the snow and enjoyed it all but it did fell like it really wanted to kill me.

I can certainly believe the hp with significant modification. TVR were very optimistic with their BHP claims (just like the Italians in the 70s/80s) but how did you lose nearly 200kg from the standard car? I am loving driving mine without all the electronic stuff that gets in the way even with a standard V8 4litre.
I was all modified by Falkand performance at some expense (£28k I seem to remember) before I purchased it. And I actually think the standard car would probably be more fun to drive, as this thing was a bit mental. It felt right at the Nurburgring (me driving in the photo) but was pretty unruly on normal roads. I had an S2 with a 200HP modified engine and it was more fun as it was better balanced in terms of power to the cars abilities.

What I have found with the TVR is that you rive it in higher gears than Maseratis because there is so much low down torque. Adding power generally means moving it up to higher revs on naturally aspirated engines and they become peakier so more difficult to balance, especially in the wet in something so light and short (Peugeot 205 wheelbase). I remember a friend modified the **** out of his TR8 conversion chasing max bhp and it was no longer fun to drive. There are a couple of brothers (Lloyds Developments in Warminster) who have written the book on tuning the Rover V8 and they are aerospace engineers by training but brilliant with this engine. They have a conversion that maintains standard power and torque up to 3000rpm and then it grows to over 400bhp. It is about 12k but changes inlet, heads, injectors, cam, manifolds, ecu, etc.

Interesting that at 3:03 he quotes the CEO of Stellantis who casts doubt on the wholesale promotion of EV's.
Exactly , yet another one who has come late to the party to see through the logic, couple him with Toyota's CEO and thats a reasonable market share having big doubts

There's an election on the way Loz, and Mr Starmer could do with a bit of competition; as you're not doing much these days.............

Of course Toyota’s CEO is saying that. Have you seen how drastically their E.V. sales in China have fallen off a cliff..? China is a BIG market for them…
They’re screwed. Logic ain’t got nothing to do with it…!

25 years old, 317HP on the rolling road, LSD, 950 Kg, RWD.
Fibre glass body, light weight steel chassis that will corrode to nothing in less than 3 years
no traction control, no ABS, no torque vectoring, no power steering, no roll protection, almost no possibility of traction or grip at full throttle at any speed.
Want to race?
Want to feel like you might die any minute?
Modified TVR Chimeara!!

LOL....nice. Been there a few times. Last one had nearly 500bhp and supercharged. Scary as ****

With a full chassis it would be 1060kg

I actually think the 4.0 V8 is the best option. Much preferred my 400 to the 500 and 450 Supercharged. You can rev it out and enjoy it fully with it only half wanting to kill you.

I read today that EV sales are down again for March as is their share of the market.

I do hope there is not another taxpayer funded scheme to push more sales... we have enough debt already in the country.

Your correct in your assumption Peter , they are proposing a 50% reduction in vat on new sales :argue1:

It might make an interesting thread (or continued drift here) as there are a number of cars where less is more. In my personal experience;

Mk2 Golf Gti better than 16v version
Merc 124 300E better than 24v version
Merc 140 S500 better than S600
most 911 NA better than turbo versions (certainly 993)
997 3.6 than 3.8

I have always felt the 8V MK2 Gti Golf is better than the 16V version, I actually think it is the sweet spot of the Golf GTi range hence on my shopping list and they are not silly money.

I think the public in general and some of the EV manufacturers have finally come to the conclusion that those finest of robes entwined with silk and gold thread that ensconce the king is actually a hologram, and that there is more than a slice of truth to the ending of OZ
