Your correct in your assumption Peter , they are proposing a 50% reduction in vat on new sales :argue1:
Is that on top of the 40% tax break? Seems they really do want to force everyone into EV’s at any cost. Strange that since not one of them actually gives a hoot about climate in their own personal lives.
Probably why my insurance has just come up with a 40% increase too as EV’s are so expensive to repair. Awesome.

Hope I’m proved wrong but my guess the next incoming government will be even less of a fan of big expensive ice cars and will see fair game to get even more money off their owners.

It might make an interesting thread (or continued drift here) as there are a number of cars where less is more. In my personal experience;

Mk2 Golf Gti better than 16v version
Merc 124 300E better than 24v version
Merc 140 S500 better than S600
most 911 NA better than turbo versions (certainly 993)
997 3.6 than 3.8
Here’s a good example of your point about the 997. The perfect 911 for the Porsche purist or keen driver. Less is more:

Just Google Telematics that all new cars are full of sending every bit of your driving activity back to whoever.
Spent a good chunk of last year updating software for Toyota last year didn't really take much notice until I started asking questions about it but it's something I don't want Loz and why I drive the cars I choose too as they ain't getting nothing from me :)

Agreed Phil, Its the ability to turn it off remotely which has connotations and begs the question why , the quantity of runaway cars is minimal and surely not worth the investment and systems implementation/ monitoring unless there is an even more sinister aspect to it perhaps to have save the planet days or even contain people within certain city limits , anyone have more insight about this from an industry point of view

EVs don’t work for me!
Thus I’d never buy one….
I have a 150 mile commute to pick up my daughter, then it’s another 150 miles to come home so 300 in total. Often this is with motorways being closed and diverted or just in slow traffic.
Now, what is the best REALISTIC car for range for sale? I’m guessing 300 miles
Heating /AC will be on etc

So I’ll be risking not getting back or asking the ex when I get there if I can recharge or worse still going to a station to recharge which will eat into my time and for what? A normal car that I use I get 50mpg out of

All seems a bit of a marketing and government ******** to me right now…..not against you guys who have one but what I’m saying is that it’s not for me. While it’s not for me it says to me that it’s not the future…….yet!
You wouldn't be driving 300 miles without a break, realistically on Britain's roads that'll be 5-6 hours driving, ultra fast chargers could add 100 miles on in minutes,

I can't remember the last time I drove 300 miles in a day so one would work for me, the Mercedes EQC400 is really appealing, especially if prices fall even further

Definitely a horses for courses issue, I regularly drive down to Worthing and back in a day a 360 miles round trip thats without doing any local miles taking family out etc , so in an EV wouldnt be comparable to what is available already on the market ICE wise ( taking into account the Net zero CO2 thing has already been debunked data wise ) where's the advantage or logic.
EV's need to stand on their own feet in the market place without government intervention or subsidies or tax advantages , its this enforcement most people take issue with not so much the cost implication, most people of a certain age do not see the EV as an answer to a problem that doesn't exist and just don't want to be led down the same garden path similar to the north sea cheap gas saga or the more recent coerced diesel buying fiasco . Lets see a fair product versus product free market , if its as good as Ronseal then it will prove itself on its own merits.

For me to get down to the South of France it's a 10.5 hour drive and I know I'd rather be in my Jaguar XJ6 or the Porsche Boxster for sure.
Driving to Southern Spain was
a 1,000 miles over the Pyrenees and working the 4.0 straight 6 was oh so Enjoyable :)

On a European and US/ Australian scale 300 miles plus is easily achievable and done most days by a huge amount of vehicles, which is where EV are plainly not the complete answer , I see their ideal place as local cars for local people, let them stand and create there own market share on their own merit ..........not at the expense of others

Well barring a 10 min break to load her bags I’ve been doing it for 10 years now every other weekend so yea it doesn’t work for me

Also, during the Christmas hols last year when we were driving back we found bad traffic on the M1, constantly stop start, we both wanted a toilet break but the service stations were packed, as in traffic for them spilling onto the motorway and all this was because of those lovely EV drivers lined up to use the chargers!

Every service station from J27 to J2 on the M1

Not for me thank you

Have to agree... bit monthly trip to Bampton in Cumbria to our holiday home. 250 miles non stop...sometimes 4 hours and in summer much longer.

When it is longer we do stop for a toilet stop and if free will plug the car in... but in season there is always a queue and there is no way I would join it if it adds more time to the journey as the stop is c10 mins

Why is it that if this tech is in new cars the police don't go to the dealer/manufacturer when some scroat has nicked one and get it turned off, or the location given of it's location?

Having just bought an EQC i can confirm its quite a good car. range is not great but its very quiet, and quite fast. Handling is ok as long as you don't push it too hard, its so heavy it get quite hard to get it under control once you have "gone too far" but i have quickly learned how to handle it. If you can live with the range dropping you can cover miles very quickly indeed. I would also say that its the most refined motorway car i have ever encountered, at 70 mph its so quiet its hard to believe.
