Phil..true, i may have misunderstood the phrase.

Do you use this phrase only for other people lives? Cause my thoughts are mainly based on how some communities work, from their organisation to their education/manners/behaviour etc.
I believe you and Frank say exactly the same thing, but in a different way.

No it can be pretty much applied to any situation, it doesn't have to be personal at all.

So, i still believe the grass (regarding education, behaviour, simplicity of everyday life) may be greener. Not sure about the UK, but surely i can talk for Germany.
And many of the members above have stated that they don't expect a better life niveau in greece, comparing to north european countries. greece has natural beauty and that's all. Good for holidays only. At least this is to be concluded here, or?
Your thoughts may be very helpful chaps.

Probably but the Germans moan too, mainly about the immigration problems in parts of their country which do seem to be on the increase. It's like anything, it's not until you go there that you will realise what you miss about home as Bill says it's "just home" but I do recommend doing it. 'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all'.

No land is problem free. But i believe that my land just prevents you from stepping forward. You see, we have no real industry, no real music, no real sports. We are the weak partner of Europe. We look more than Turkey than Italy.

Now...what is for you the word ''home"? The place you were born? The friends? The family? Your house? All of them?

I think Greece has more than that. The problem is one Man's heaven is another's h e l l... look at what we drive! some people think we are mad; others look on envious. You are right that I feel more settled, more "I know what's important to me". There is no right or wrong answer, no better or worst; just what suits you and what you want to achieve. At the end of the day if you don't "paint yourself into a corner", it might be worth trying it and see how you get on. Greece has been there for over 2,500 years so I don't think its going anywhere! the other thing of-course is that you can always come back for a couple of months and collect receipts for Varoufakis while you are having a holiday....

Hi Nikos, no worries......stereotypes......

The Irish, drink too much, a bit dis-organised, inclined to flight and like a bit of criac.....

I don't drink, like things timetabled/planned, not had a fight since I was 13 ( despite several invitations over the years!)..........but I do like a bit of craic.....

So am not doing too well myself!

P

I was thinking that your relationship with France is there to fill in the missing gap you may have in Ireland. Am i mistaken?

That's right Goulielmo, greece will always be there, and nothing will happen. The steeotypes, though, as Frank mantioned, will remain..corruption, dirty areas, bad manners, a lot of state workers doing nothing, and it will be overall a land of service, without industry etc etc etc.

Well, its just a nicer environment in many ways, I appreciate lots of elements in their national lifestyle, others I detest!!!!!

We are all products of our own up-bringings in a variety of settings, why feel you have to belong to one group, region or country?

Hmm..not exactly. I am Just very careful in my moves. Buying the maserati was a "fall in love" move, but to change your life, i believe needs much more parametres to pay attention to. I ain't perfect, but when making mistakes, there is a price to pay. And paying has become a kind of habit It the latest greek years!

Having had a second thought, maybe you're right. In greeks' way of life, family and friendships have an important role in the life of us, much more inportant than Brittish or German mentality. I believe it's one of ste stereotypes.

Yet again, i am facing the unorganised face of greece. Spent one day to find a set of scetches that should have been kept by the local building office. But guess what...they are lost..
And, below it's the reason..

all sketches are stored in this way...even on the floor...we truely deserve the worst.
