Your scenerio is highly likely too Miles. My view is that the markets want the Germans to junk one or two weak members of the Euro then liquidity will improve, this is not a melt down scenerio as we are past that stage.

For those that go, they can reflate in old school style to erode the real value of debt and get exporters working and their tourism industries buoyant. The austerity measures are far too painful to be deliverable without widescale popular unrest. Greece and Portugal should go - its better for them.

BB i do not think liquidity will improve if Portugal and Gr are outside. Some politicians here should be brought to justice, as all what is happening now could have been avoided.

If some countries did not meet the criteria to join the EU, you can imagine what will follow if the newily entered members( Esthonia etc) are in the centre of Germany's game, cause the criteria for them were lower.

I do not believe anyone will get outside the EU.What would possibly happen is the Eurozone of two levels:Same currency, but no benefitts,no loans, no tolerance for level 2.

Talk about wasted money...did you know that the EU funded a motorway in Montanique due to the fact its a French territory...a motorway on a small island!!!

Loads of egs like that in Europe Peter.......plus their overseas departments are technically French...so French standards and ways of doing public stuff exactly the same as anywhere else in France

They apply national standards to all public services and infrastructures..........don't leave it to local departments or cities to cheapen or vary....so you always know what to expect.

...yes a higher rate of tax. Britain is a bloody good place to live in the round. When I sold my first business a decade ago I had a good look round and found lots of reasons why I would not live in most places. The only country I really took a shine to was Canada but I didn't fancy two foot of snow every winter. I can't get my brain round Aus, NZ, SA and/or the US and feel that places like Italy and France are hard to fit into long term when you are speaking the local language as a second tongue. Anyway, Italy has pretty damp and miserable winters especially in the north.

Rock on Nikos, let's have a convoy to Athens??
I once looked at getting a place in France, I stayed in the area for about a week, then my friend who lives there said " well what do you think, are you going to buy a place here", I said "sorry mate, I'm too young to live here". The place basically shut down for months, nothing open for miles, no bars, no restaurants, virtually nothing is open, it would have driven me crazy. I must admit wherever I have been, I always am glad to get back to blightly.
