I think that's my mid term plan also (MC Strad and a 458 or Macca 570). Mate has offered me his California for a decent price.....quite tempted. What does the 30 add to the mix?

The Standard Cali is 460 BHP and Circa 1750 kg,

The Cali 30 is +30 BHP and - 30 KG in weight. Plus they normally have a load of extra options- the big one is the special handllng pack which include faster gearshift times (10% ish) firmer suspension, sports exhaust etc).

If you PM me the offer and car details I can tell you my thoughts for what its worth. I did around 7 months of research pre purchase and am still doing a PhD on the Cali Market. I will be able to tell you straight away if it is a good price! There is a lot of choice at the moment and a lot have been on the market for a while. Having said that - to call it the 'mass produced' or 'common' ferrari isn't bourne out by Autotrader stats as I was superised to see only around 20 more for sale UK wide than the 458s.

The Cali can be used most days if you want, the 458 would IMO be less and less used for several reasons.

Strad faster than a 997 GT3. How?!
Thats an impressive feat. and only .2 slower than an F430

I had just noted that 0.2 as well. incredible! that was an earlier 2 seater, also. It obviously pushed out more horses than it says on the box..

EDIT: sorry, the lap seems to be in a 2013 4 seater. The previous TG comparison to the AMG was in an early 2 seater

strad is faster than a 997 GT3 in straight line, but the Porky *must* win on anything with twisties. I guess the variably of driver and surface.

Getting back to the original question, please note what is 14 places above the Strad in the Top Gear lap times.........yep the old 2010 R8...........that too in damp conditions.

I've heard of two standard GTS that have shown over 500bhp on a rolling road in standard form. I have long suspected that my Strad pushed more out that they claim, it's certainly more powerful than my Gransport, which was 400 standard and mine had full Larinis, remap, filter etc so should have been 20-30bhp up or so. I believe that the quest to position Maserati below Ferrari in the many ways has contributed to a false output claim. Perhaps I should stick mine, and maybe Matt and Stuart could do the same, onto a rolling road and find out what the truth is.

Yep handle and power of a current hot hatch. I reckon I could drive a lap of Thruxton in a Megane RS as quick as I could a Strad.

I was talking to a car geek relative of my wife on Saturday, he's friends with a guy who tunes *** motors, he told him I have a GTS, and his friend has said its common knowledge in the tuning fraternity that what Maserati say the output of a GT is, is completely different to the reality. 'Apparently' down the Ferrari not wanting the BHP competition.
Be interesting to see what they actually push out.
Might go and speak to the guys at my local RR to see what mines got.

I was just reading about the Portofino again - and apparently
They are bringing out another convertible in the next two months. It is just ridiculous what maserati are
Doing at the moment. Not bringing out anything remotely exciting and just doing minor facelifts to bloody old cars (although good looking ones in the case of the GTS).
