WHS ^^^^^

Buy the right 458 at the right price and it could cost nothing or make money.

Speaking of which... rockits- with your history of intelligent car buying..can you find a 458 that fits into the bracket for me :)

Don't get me wrong Rags....your R8 is a cracking and lovely car. However the German interpretation of a supercar is just a very different thing to the Italian interpretation.

I know the R8 even a V8 is a world apart from a TT. The V10 is two worlds apart. I know and appreciate this and this is not up for discussion or debate....it is a given. No offence meant.

Rockits - yep agree but the you really think the Maserati is a supercar? I doubt it could even keep up with a BMW M4. It is beautiful and stylish, something you can fall in love with easily but it isnt a performer in the league of some of the cars that are being talked about here. And thats exactly what I said in my first post on this thread.

Let be honest about that. Even An Audi TT RS would thrash a GTS.

LOL....Probably ;) I have bought plenty of duffers but seem to come out the other side OK. A 458 though is way out of my league, comfort zone and ability level I think.

I know!
If only I had the money! I wouldn't even bother apologising to this forum!!!

I just had my nightly pre bed scoot over auto trader.
Does anyone else get the same feeling?
Finding a car you love, convincing yourself it's a reasonable
Price, then focusing on the real figure and thinking WTF am I thinking , that's the cost of a house, pull yourself together.
Then the next night doing exactly
The same thing..

Got to say, loving tonight's debate, which is one thing this forum is generally good at, objective, subjective, and at times tongue in cheek pee taking!!

Well I'll throw my feelings into the mix:

I really like the R8+

Would I spend over £100k on one, no.

£70-80 yes.

It's all about that V10 engine for me so it's sorta Italian makes this a viable option.

Over a strad for similar money? It may be faster but the Strad just looks and sounds the business

I agree and think maybe most Masers need a space in between Super & Car. I think a Strad though is still very much a supercar and punches well above its weight to where it should do. This is some achievement considering its age and power disadvantage to many other new kids on the block. The TG lap times show the Strad having a decent placing at 56:

A Strad is cracking value for money really. Imagine if it was just a little smaller and lighter.

Would I have a TT RS over a Maser.....er....nope. Would I have a TT RS full stop.....nope.

Far too often....I am sure many of us are doing it! I just thought of a new game....10 car garage for £100k. I am 8 cars in and maybe £85k in. I have £15k left for the last 2 cars. Yes that is £100k for 10 cars. You guys are talking 100k+ for one car. I can't play cards at that table!

Strad faster than a 997 GT3. How?!
Thats an impressive feat. and only .2 slower than an F430

Im surprised by that 458 Top gear time. Seems really slow??

Not sure it is really representative as a small track not allowing many higher output cars to really wind up and show their power advantages I expect. I was watching a video of the Strad side by side something else and amazing to see how much better balanced and controlled the Strad was in comparison. I think it was a Merc C63 Black Edition. The Merc smoking all over the shop and the Strad a lithe looking ballerina in comparison.

Talk to me more about your California, mate has one and loves it but he hasn't owned a GT so hard to get a relative feel.

Hi paul.
I am not sure how much I can say on this forum - but as its Italian.. Shouldn't face as much stick as the Audi Thread!

The first and most important question is - do I prefer it to the GTS. The answer is unquestionably. It suits my needs better. For someone with young children who want to be able to use a car that puts a smile on your face and looks rare, and can take to work and park at the local sainsburys it fits the bill.

I am blown away by it in many ways. It does the GT car well in that its comfortable, well specced, can be quiet on long journeys and not too uneconomical.
But I don't give a **** about that side of it. I always drive it with the paddles, top down as much as possible (to hear the exhaust better - not to look a dick). Its a different league driving wise to the GTS, much faster and more compact. To me it feels like a sports car when driven like that, as much a sports car as you need on 95% of the roads in the UK. And you can have a mate in the back seats or two little ones.
The back seats are obviously much smaller than the GTS, but it can fit my daughter in and mates on short journeys so thats all its needed for. I think I used the back seats on the GTS around 5 times for adults in a year.
The leather inside is luxurious - better than the GTs IMO. The tech is better, but I can't comment on the New Maserati Unit.
Its not a fair comparison as the Cali was a '30 and was considerably more than double the price of the GTS.
Looks are subjective but it looks pretty aggressive and compact. The Scuderia shields are a must, as are the Yellow Rev Counter, Carbon LED Wheel and contrast calipers. These options along with extra interior and exterior carbon bits make it look better IMO. I would take my old GTs looks wise vs a Standard Pre- 2012 Cali (at 45k vs 90k) but with the right options The Ferrari looks better.
The GTs sounds better (at low revs) - over 4,000 its debateable. I have the special handling pack and sports exhaust on mine, so a standard Cali wouldn't sound anything like the GTs and the Cali T doesn't sound as good as a GTs IMO.

All in all the Cali is the perfect compromise car, as it does the GT thing (if thats whats needed) and the Sports Car thing well. Anyone who says its not a Real Ferrari, I think has issues.

In an ideal world, and my medium term plan, it to have a Strad (for the 4 seats and theatre) and a 458 as I think they are Class leaders in their Roles.
But I am very happy with a Cali at the moment in Combination alongside a run around. The 458/Strad combination might be based on what would look good in the garage rather than what I need and is sensible though.
